A few weeks ago there was a thread about cleaning ceramic hones. A lot of opinions were expressed. Many swore by BKF. I decided to try it. The only kind I found was the cleanser (the powdery stuff). It turns out to work like a charm. Much better than I had expected and it did not melt the skin off my hands or cause nuclear fusion in my sink as some had warned. :D

Thanks guys!! :)

It is amazing how well it will clean a ceramic, try using a fine (gray) scotch brite pad seems to work better than a nylon brush.

Yea that stuff is great.I used to use comet or ajax, but BKF works twice as good & doesn't leave that bleach smell in your hands.

I used to use Comet too. I would scrub with a nylon brush designed to remove carbon fouling from firearms. I got only limited results. This past week I used BKF with a toothbrush on both a few hones and tonight I cleaned my crock sticks like it was magic. I just have to use a lot less then Comet. I would have Comet all over the place when done and still not as clean as I would like. Just a little BKC cleaned the sticks in no time.

My first time using BKC for my hones I piled it on. Now I know that's not necessary.

I used on some vintage brass blow torches that no brass cleaner/polisher would touch. Quick and easy - ready for Flitz!

The only reason I mentioned BKF should be used with caution is because it is easy to fling the stuff off of a stiff bristle brush and into your eyes. Since it is an acid, I want to make sure I let people know to be careful. It never bothered my skin, but I have a son who is allergic to alot of things, including latex, so I may be overly cautious. It works great on sinks too. I am glad someone alerted me to it. This is why I love BF!

Had it not been for your warning I would have ended up with it in my eyes. I vividly remember your warning and was certain to keep it out of my eyes. I also took the time to read through all the instructions and warnings on the can. It’s obviously not just your run of the mill cleanser.

Thanks for the heads up!!!
