you guys posting pictures of your scout knives and talkin about your first knife, or the like made me go and dig threw my desk in the man room to find my old wenger commander, that my dad gave me for my first pocket knife when i was 6 years old. i could only use it to whittle big sticks into little sticks under close supervision from my old man. the symbols is almost worn off from handling, and the blade looks terrible from a little kid trying to sharpen it and it's really dull, now that i know what i'm doin i'm gonna get her sharp again, i've owned this knife for 18 years, and will hopefully have a son of my own to give it too. i'll try to snap a couple of pics tomorrow when the wife brings the camera home from work.

thanks

ditto! seeing scouts on here spurred my memory and I went snooping around and found my dad's old Boy Scout knives from the 60s, an Imperial and a Colonial. The Colonial is better quality with half-stops, an electrician's blade along with the main sheepsfoot, and classy jigged plastic scales ;) I'll post up pictures if I can

Hi,

Good for you! Isn't it amazing how a seemingly common little item can link us so powerfully to our past.

And that's why I like this little place. The good people here help a body slow down a bit and reconnect.

Welcome to the world of old pocket knives.

Now that you're going to fix up/sharpen that Wenger, maybe you'll be cruising the Saturday morning flea markets for old scout knives. A few years ago, I was with the better half as she made the local yard sales, and I picked up a nice old Camillus scout knife with carbon steel blades for a few bucks. Cleaned up nice. I still also carry my old Wenger SI on a regular rotation. The old SI is a scout pattern that's a Sherman tank of scouts, like all alox sak's. Great edc pocket knives.

But be warned, you're on a steep slippery slope!:D

Carl.

carl, i love the scout knives with the bails and the tools, and i love to dig through flea markets (we have a pretty good one here locally with lots of knife guys) and i make the yard sales runs with my wife just about every weekend in the summer when i'm not fishing.

thanks
sam
