I won this here knife in a GAW. I could not be more pleased with it. Just wanted to say thanks for an excellent designs masterfully executed!

Btw, do you have any suggestions for restoring the finish? After extended use, the coat faded notably.

A folding JK !? Solid metal scales !? Never heard of such. :p

That seems to be a pretty rare blade you have there sir.

There is really no way to restore the heat treat finish. That's a rare one you have, it's the only one I made like that, titanium handles and the thick blade.

Well, I will have to try an apple cider vinegar soak. Thoughts? And I am glad you made this one. I love using it for everything I have the excuse for.

a pcb etch (AKA ferric chloride from radio shack) will give a black finish.
clean the blade with rubbing alcohol or acetone, then wipe on the etchant with a cotton ball, wait 30-60 seconds, and spray it down with 409 or windex - then rinse in clean water, dry, and oil lightly.
or, if you have some cold blue, you can coat the blade with that, then dunk it in some bleach to give a mottled look.

A word of caution with the Radio Shack PCB etchant-these days I believe it also contains hydrochloric acid, which makes it quite a bit more hazardous than plain old FC. Several of the knifemaking supply houses have FC concentrate.

Thanks for the pic Ferahgo, it's nice to see the knife went to a good home.
That sucker is a tank ain't it?

Certainly is. That's one of the reasons I love it so much. The heavier the knife, the better, imao

thanks for the warning!

I will keep that in mind, but I would not get my hopes up if I were you. And if I ever need custom work done, I will be sure to check in here.

I am having a good deal of difficulty sharpening this blade. Suggestions on how to do it? I am using Arkansas stones, but they seem to have no effect. Is this normal for O1?

I got it to a hair popping edge.

It took about 5 hours on Arkansas stones of different levels, and many more hours free-hand stropping on various leathers. I also played with the patina a bit.
