I can't think of a better day, since I'll be sitting around anyway, to take care of some of those edges that need a little or a lot of work. A little cleaning and oiling etc. with a bit of nostalgic daydreaming while waiting for turkey and dressing/stuffing/filling and pies with vanilla ice cream and cups of steaming coffee, or while waiting for the first round to settle. I'm looking forward to a great day!

P.S. All my sharpening will of course be done on my traditional slip joints. My
AGR wharnecliffe sow belly especially needs some loving attention to its edge, after working outdoors with me all day.

That sounds like a good plan.

I sort of fiddle with sharpening or stropping virtually every day, so I know I'll be at it at some time, tomorrow. It is very relaxing therapy, indeed.

Happy Thanksgiving, Jake. :)

You paint a lovely picture, right up to the part where I remember that I'll be the one getting the turkey ready and preparing and serving the dressing/stuffing/filling and desserts. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

lol then you can indulge in nostalgic daydreaming while everyone else does the dishes and puts everything away afterwards!

You're right about Thanksgiving weekend being a good sharpening weekend. It is also a great hunting weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all from Yorkshire, England  6am here, but I'll be commencing sharpening shortly, got a real blunt clasp knife I got yesterday to work on :)

Just realised it's not 6am, it's after 7 O'clock, my solar-powered everyday watch (Citizen Eco-Drive) stopped in the night - shows how much sunshine I've been getting lately! :D

I try to keep the kitchen cutlery up to snuff throughout the year but it's always fun putting the final touches on the carving knife on Thanksgiving Day.

Hope the day is a great one for all that are celebrating.

No real sharpening to do, knives are kept sharp. Good thing as I domn't really have the time. Was up at 6am this morning to clean and prep the bird, in the oven at 7. Oyster stuffing to be made, last minute details taken care of. The grandkids will be here soon to do their usually air gun plinking in the woods behind the house, with grandpa supervision of course. There's Captain Morgan's cocktails to be mixed, and be disposed of. Who's got time for sharpening?

You all have a great Thanksgiving!!!

Carl.

You are absolutely right. I was just restoring the edge on a new-to-me but used birch bark handled puukko last evening.
Very therapeutic.

I did the sharpening last night, didn't want to leave it until today with so much else to remember to do in the morning.

Everyone have a great day.

I tried convexing for the first time last weekend and I am going to spend some time over the next few days to clean-up some edges. Thanks for starting this thread!

Funny, today I cleaned the oilstone off real well before bringing it inside for winter, cleaned off my old Norton India pocket stone, and made a strop with an oak floorboard and red jewler's rouge. Not sure how well the strop will work. Happy Thanksgiving!
