We will be heading up to my Fiance, Lil-Bit's folks in Northern Va.
Last yr., I smoked a bone in turkey breast, rubbed with olive oil and thyme.
It was a hit, so this yr., I am doing 2 of the same, but with fresh cilantro instead of thyme. I will probably also do my smoked mushrooms with garlic and cilantro. Lil-Bit's Dad ( a Paris trained Chef in his younger days), will be handling the rest of the meal and appetizers. There will be a couple more adults, so an extra bird will be handy. This will also be our first chance to see Lil-Bit's now 5 mo. old nephew.

I get to work midnight to 8AM Thanksgiving Day and midnight to 8AM the day after. My dad's brother and his family are coming to visit, so I'll need to find a place to sleep in there somewhere. I am going to try to convince my mom to let me brine the bird this year. Alton Brown has forever changed the way I think about food!

Some friends near Rochester are having us over. They had us last year, and we wanted to host this time, but they went and bought a nice house, so they asked to host again.

They are very close friends, really becoming like family. They are our best friends up here in WNY.

We used to do this with friends down in NC. 3 families whose relatives were all far away. We took turns each year, and had some single folks join us. A great time every year.

We usually make the trek to see the family over Christmas.

I may take my two oldest small game hunting in the am. The 13 year olds first time. The 9 year old will just be along for the fun.

Take care,

Tom

I'm going to be eating with my folks and some of my family on dad's side. Mom's going to smoke a turkey on the grill again this year.

MMMmmm,
All that smoked turkey, I need a nap already.
We'll be bringing a wild turduken over to an already overfull table at my moms/sisters house. I get to rough house with my 2 nephews, we love to spoil them something fierce. Holly will make her wonderful fresh apple pies with butter crust and creamy pumpkin pies. Last year I made the turduken with store bought birds...a task but fun and delicious. This years plan was wild birds, I have the turkey, been saving the duck in the freezer, had to buy store bought chicken as I have no idea where to find a wild freakin hen! Maybe I'll ask Coote if they have any running wild in NZ for next year. The darn chicken is as big as the duck though, might have to layer the chicken down first before sewing them up , it would be a Tur-chi-duk then, right? Wild rice, cajun dirty rice and pinion sage stuffings in each layer respectively.

Please be patient in all your travels, have fun and get there and back again safe, from Our family to yours,
Mark,Holly and our daughters

Going to Utah via Las Vegas to spend Thanksgiving with the girls and the grandkids. Will be the first time to see my new granddaughter. Ya'll have a safe and enjoyable day whatever you do. And don't forget to cont your blessings. Danny, your family here are thinking about you, be safe and God Bless.

Going to spend The holiday in the home I grew up in outside of Tupelo, MS for the last time... My Mother is looking to sell and move in with my wife and I since my Father's passing a year and a half ago...

Going to help till up the flower beds for her Friday...

I'll be alone this year, but the Czech republic has the best cakes and pastries I have ever had. Holy cow...
I am coming home to Texas on Dec 6 for good.
I will just have to settle for a big Christmas...

Alton Brown has forever changed the way I think about food!

Man, ain't that the truth! I love to watch the guy work, but I have to pick and choose what I follow and what I throw out. I mean seriously, who has like 3 and half hours to cook pancakes? I do like the brining idea. I'm going to try that the next time that we fix the bird.

This year is sort of bittersweet. For the last 2 years, my wife and I have prepped Thanksgiving at our small home for her parents and couple of friends. This year, my father-in-law is undergoing a chemo study to try and prolong his life that keeps him tied to the Louisville area for the most part.

We made the plans to have Thanksgiving at the in-laws in case dad-in-law was feeling crumby from the poisons. As luck would have it, he is tolerating the treatment well, so hopefully he'll enjoy all the goodies that are made:) Actually, it's going to be quite a spread. My bro-in-law was trained in the culinary arts, and my in-laws by and large (accent on the large;)) are great cooks and big eaters.

This year, the wife and I are in charge of dessert and the potatoes. We're fixing a pumpkin pie and a pumpkin roll. I wanted to use Alton's sweet potato substitute, but the wife said that it would be too much work to prep, make, bake, and take on a 2 hour drive. I kinda have to agree with her;) We're also making my mashed potatoes. I may be an American made mutt, and basically Irish by name, but the potato gene is one that is very near and dear to my heart;):D

We're leaving wednesday night, eating thursday, and then my wife and sis-in-law are batsh#t insane enough to venture out into Black Friday. Bro-in-law and I will be hanging back at the in-laws to play Xbox and Wii. We'll head home Friday night stuffed, bloated, and miserable. One of my best friends is coming into town (my home town) to visit his folks and in-laws, so we're planning on going out Saturday night with them to a club or bar or something. It's gonna be a full weekend, and I'm really excited about it:)

Buddy the Wonderdog and I will be taking care of River (aka: The Big Fat Lab) over the week (ex's dog). I've laid in a supply of Hungryman microwave Turkey dinners (one for each mutt and four for me) to cover food, but I might need to restock before the week is out.

With school getting out tomorrow night, we are free until next Monday. I expect to fill the time watching movies and playing WoW, with the occasional venture out to walk the dogs. It is supposedly about to dump snow on us, so that'll add to the excitement (actually, it is probably snowing now, but I don't want to look out the window... we're under a storm advisory, so maybe school will be out tomorrow).

Happy Turkey Day everyone :D

Same as every year. It's also my birthday on Thursday so my mom is throwing me a birthday brunch, but after that it's Thanksgiving with the extended family. This time it might be a bit more challenging to try and coordinate everything as I'm newly engaged and the fiancee and I have to figure how we are going to have dinner with both our families. It's a good thing that we only live five minutes from each other.

Well I just got news that our other office is closing at around 1pm today. I guess I could close up around that time. However, the wife doesn't get off work until 3:30 anyway, and we have 90% of our stuff and food prepped and packed up. Besides, I plan on closing up around 4 instead of 5. That'll give me an extra hour to get home, get on the road, and maybe beat the work traffic (ha ha ha)....meh..maybe 3:30 isn't sounding so bad:o;)

At any rate, I hope you all have a fantastic holiday. Eat plenty, hug the heck out of your family, enjoy the ballgame if you like, and be careful out there on Black Friday if you're crazy enough to "enjoy" such nonsense. I'll catch you all later around mondayish. :D:D:D:D

Going to the in-laws. We're bringing pies (I don't even like pies). Not exactly sure what's going to be on the table. A bird, yams, mashed taters, ham if I'm lucky (my brother-in-law is also a ham junkie), bread, the usual fare. I used to do all the cooking with my mother-in-law but Heather's nephew is going to cullinary school so he's taken over most of the kitchen duties.

Be safe out there.

Frank

We have much to be thankful for but don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the general sense. But for our turkey day Barbie is cooking a 20 pound fresh, no additives or preservative, never frozen, turkey today along with all the fixins so we'll have leftovers after turkey day. That's usually the bad part about going to relatives, you don't have any leftovers.:(
And everyone should have their share of tryptophan at least once a year!  :D
We'll be going to Barbie's brother's place tomorrow for a while at least. Barbie's sister and b-i-l are down from Pennsylvania for the winter so it's kinda a special year for her.:)

Sleepin' in; then spending the morning in a big family snuggle pile; then put the bird in early (I'll brine it tonight); lots o' food; bunch of movies; then "Da Meal"; then a nice long nap. Oh, and lots of wrasslin' with a noodley little seven year old.

I'm a stay-at-home dad, and my schedule is packed up to Thanksgiving day. After today (Wednesday), I'm off for the next four days, I don't care what anyone says.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, especially all you military folks, LEO's and firefighters, too, who have to work on the holiday. We appreciate it! :):)

thx - cpr

I'll be spending time with my newly enlarged family. Smoking turkeys in the smoker, loving those close to me and thankful for those who have been in my life.

Happy day to all of you!

My Plans for today are to meet inlaws in Oklahoma City to chow down, and celebrate thier wedding anniversary along with my youngests birthday. (Note: hard to belive couple of years ago we were not even sure he would be around this long) so it is sort of a quadruple reason to celebrate this day and to give real meaning to giving thanks.

tomorrow my mother is showing up from Fort Worth to help celebrate her grandsons birthday

Then monday it's off to Wichita KS for a week on a job.

Happy holidays folks in whatever flavor you use.
