Hey folks, Happy Thanksgiving. I used to hunt ringnecks with my Father-in-law on Thanksgiving morning before dinner, but we no longer live near them in PA and there are no ringnecks in Southern MD so that doesn't happen anymore, and I really miss it. I want to start something new for the kids to carry on. One of my boys mentioned this morning that we should cook a portion of Thanksgiving dinner over an open fire while Mom prepares the rest in the oven. That sounds pretty cool. Do you have any Thanksgiving traditions like this that you'd like to share? I'd love to hear them.

For the last several years I have shown up to Thanksgiving late and with a horrible hangover. I plan on continuing that tomorrow. :D

was lucky enough to be back in kc for this years event-record number of riders and a mtn of food!.

have a most amazing day, however you like it

I typically go deer hunting on T-day morning and will continue that tradition tomorrow.

I do remember one year when I was younger spending the night before t-day at the bar with a friend drinking $1 Coors drafts. We then had the bright idea of going four-wheeling at 1am. Ended up tipping the truck over onto its roof some 9 miles in the woods. Was a long walk out in the middle of the night to get help. Thankfully neither of us were injured. That's one tradition I'm proud to say I've never repeated!

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Squirrels and Cottontails!

Thirty years ago, there were a lot of ringnecks in Central-North Anne Arundel County. They are apparently long gone.

Doing lil' as possible watching the Cowboy game and taking naps after eating.... being doing it for 30+ years !

I get together with a bunch of other youth football coaches and play football in the morning. After I get home I start hanging the Christmas lights while dinner is in the oven. It's a two day job, and it gives me something to do other than sitting through the torture of waiting for Thanksgiving Dinner.

As strange as it sounds.....the men of the family have made it a Thanksgiving tradition to pound a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20. Been doing it for YEARS!!! and it still taste's like crap every year. ;)

I smoke turkeys. It is pretty easy, keeps the boys occupied and keeps the kitchen free for other dishes. L:et me know if you want specifics.

This year I'm cooking our turkey in the ground. I have an extra for Saturday in case I pooch the buried bird.

I'll try to document with photos of the process.

Just one question, aren't the turkeys hard to lite and which end do ya put the match to?

My Turkey Day tradition is to make Cabbage and noodles/dumplin's with home made dumplings, (which I make the day before) just got done makin' 3 batches of dumplin's one to freeze and two for a double batch of cabbage and noodles/dumplin's.

My mom taught me how to make it when I was a kid and no one else wants to learn how to make it, they just wanna eat it.:D

It's a pain in the butt to make the dumplin's but it's well worth it when your eatin' 'em.:D

you know you opened the door for this one........

better smoke as many as you can this year....Obama is looking to ban those for being tooo addictive and causing people to sleep for hours after smoking them! ;)

Nothing makes for projectile vomiting like a night of Vodka, warm Budweiser and capping it off with upending a bottle of that shit. :D

This is turning out pretty good! I tried to get the wife to let me smoke a turkey, but cooking it in the oven with stuffing is a must for her so...maybe a second smaller bird. Man I had to watch how I worded that...:p

Ours used to be a trip from Grandma's after dinner to "go look at cars". Cousin Jim always had some good shine. Like a rite of passage when we were old enough.

Haven't figured out how to put multiple quotes in a reply yet:o. Thanks for all the replies, some goooood stuff here! Keep 'em comin'!

That's a cool time. We used to play our "Turkey Bowl" on Thanksgiving weekend, but the boys are both in high school now so no more coaching for me (for now). Christmas lights, yep, risking life and limb on the roof year after year...but it's worth it. :)

It's not my tradition but I thought I would post it in case anyone wants to take it up for their own.

A friend's Mom and Aunt's rotate who host the Thanksgiving. After a few years the Brother (Uncle) insisted he would host the next one.

He started smoking the turkey and probably a little something else and drinking early Thanksgiving morning.

By the time everyone got there he was three sheets to the wind.

Finally all of the food was done and he sets up a table and two chairs at the entrance of the kitchen door.

He announces that everyone had to line up and arm wrestle him before they could pass into the kitchen to fill their plates.

Every man, woman and child, regardless of age, lined up to arm wrestle Uncle John before they filled there plate.

Now that my friends is a Thanksgiving memory :D
