Here's the latest Holtzer's I caught. Horizontal tang, integral construction and perfect fit and finish as usual. Nice double hollow ground... (plus an ugly sheath that I didn't shoot !)

WoW!
You don't see that type of construction every day.
Very complex design. Blade grinds seem to be outstanding.
Very nice piece.
Is the handle material Ironwood?

Yes it is. Unusual construction indeed. Tharcis was the only one to make that kind of tang (those with engraving are really beautiful). And he never used a milling machine or a CNC thing. I asked Dietmar Kressler for such an integral construction, but he said no...

I believe I first saw some photos of his work from the last Paris Show, and have since been amazed by his talent.

That is a very striking piece. I can only imagine how difficult that type of integral construction must be. That blade looks awesome.:thumbup:

Actually he passed away in 1999... And he never get what he deserved when alive. A very shy guy. Moreover people don't realize what making an integral knife demands. They just can't figure out how hard it is. And Tharcis was not a "marketing" guru...

Even though he passed away posting this blade will give other makers new ideas for their designs. Thanks for sharing.

I like the look a lot. Can't remember where I saw this, but I saved it due to its unique tang design for reference:

Beautiful knife! Reminds me of a big Integral dagger Edmund Davidson made,
only in his case the handle had four inserts.

All the best,

Beautiful Knife, with great flow.

It is much closer to a cross between a New York
Special, and the Hide Out. Where as the true City Knife is a very short bladed single edge (almost Scaple), in design.

Love the workmanship

I mistakingly took Tharcis' work for Richard Zirbes' as
he also utilizes horizontal tang, integral construction.

that's a muscular, macho blade:thumbup:

I remember discovering his work in the 90's, mostly via "La Passion des Couteaux". Lovely body of work. This one isn't my favorite - I find the steel parts a bit too massive. It screams to be engraved....
