Don't know what you'd call it, reckon I call it a boot knife. Handle is ash, with a thick walled brass ferrule (pipe fitting). File steel blade is 5 1/2", single edged, and "pointy". Starting to carve them silly round handles with the rings more raised and pronounced. Give's a feller plenty of "traction". ;)

It looks like a knife to me. You're carving the handles by hand?

Sweet. Gotta sheath?

So, Sarge, you figured out how to turn yourself into a lathe. It ain't easy, is it?
Holding and turning both ends with his hands is no trouble, but getting the angle of his teeth right....Now, THAT'S the talent!!!

Real nice. I can see there's a lot of room to experiment with that kind of design.
All your finish coatings are even. I wonder how you and Steve do that so consistantly?

That there ain't no tricky bit of whittlin'. I used to whittle them wooden chains and balls in boxes, 'til I figured out there wasn't much you could do with 'em. I use a fine cut, narrow kerf, jigsaw blade mounted to a handle to cut in the rings, then just whittle and sand the contours as I like. Have to look close to see the imperfections, but in a way I'm glad they're there. ;)
