Guys if you love hawks this book is for you
not a page goes by that does not talk about hawks in one way or another.from what the book says from 1740 till 1812 the favored method of exacution on the frontier just west of the alaganies
by both americans and native americans was a tomahawk blow to the
head.an excerp from the book the ( the war cheif of the shwanee could
could kill a man with one backhand blow from his hawk and on a front
stroke almost in one motion scalp his victium .He was later killed
in hand to hand hawk combat with ebanezer zane)And the book go into
great detail about said fight. This book is a must read for us hawks
nuts .................

All of Allan W. Eckert's books are filled with tales of the Hawk. Also try the Frontiersmen and The Wilderness War. The Wilderness war is my favorite its about the French and Indian War period and includes Rodger' Rangers the namesake of the ATC Rodger's Rangers hawk. Eckert's books are filled with history of the area in which I live, they are great and well researched. When you read his books you
get a whole lot more out of them by reading the chapter notes at the end of the book as you go along. Alot of his books are being reprinted by the Jesse Stewart Foundation. However look on Half.com and you can ussually find them at a good price.

Another good book for this type of action is "Crow Killer"
it's the story about Jerramia Johnson AKA Liver Eating Johnson.
Not quite "The Frontiersman" about Simon Kenton but still a good book.

Just want to say thanks for the recommendation on "That Dark and Bloody River". Just a fantastic book, it doesn't disappoint.

You are very welcome if you get a chance read mr eckerts other books
I am now reading the wilderness war and also bought the fronters men.
what I like the most is that they are historic naratives.

I too wanted to say thank you for the recommendation of this book. I am only on page 107, but it is a great read.

Thanks again

For whats it's worth I read the Frontiersman while my wife was expecting our first, I convinced her that if it was a boy we should name him Kenton (after Simon Kenton). She agreed and it was a boy, the rest as they say is history.

just finished the wilderness war it was a very good book
and I am now on chapter two of frontersman and this book seems
even better. for us hawk nuts these books dont come
any better If you have not read anything by allan w eckert
