That Final Step?

Hey Guys...

Ok,, I dragged out my old set of crock sticks..
They were pretty dirty from years of use,, so I washed them and used some scotchbright on them to get all of the black off...

Now,, I've got a question for you experts.

How do I properly use these and care for them?

Should this be one of my final steps in sharpening a blade ?

Will this take the place of a Strop ?

Any advice on this would be great,,because I was never actually taught to use them,,and what I had learned I lost many years ago...

Thanks..

Eric...

Assuming that your crock sticks are ceramic. I would use them as the last step before stropping. I read somewhere that a fine white ceramic registers as having a grit size of 4.5-5 microns. That will give you a polished edge and have most knives shaving sharp. Green jewelers rouge and micro fine honing compound (used on a strop) have grits that register at about .5 microns. That will give you an even better polish on the edge and get most knives super sharp. As for technique with the crock sticks I can't help you there since I don't have any.
