So, I'm getting a 2, a 7, or a 9. To complement my 14. This will be my second BK knife. The 14 performed like a champ, and then held an edge. The knife I pick up needs to be a hard use, batoning, well maintained (hey, I take care of my stuff) workhorse. Weight not so much of an issue.

I like the 2 for it's un-kill-ability and just good all around ness. Seems to be a great lightweight train wrecker. It can't be destroyed from what I hear...

I like the 7 for it's underdogness (I love the classic bowie shape, but in the pictures thread here there are like what... 3 7s?!) And it seems to be the middle ground between a 2 and 9. Bigger than a 2 with that bowie shape; smaller than a 9 so it's more portable.

And the 9 seems to be a batoning champ. Never mind that it comes with an extra blade on top of that. (Remora) If I were going to deforest an area, I think the 9 would be it. If I were defending SPARTA! I would also pick a 9...

Pick one, argue for one, advise me one one. (argue in order if you wish, this then that) Cause I'm likley going to get more than one as time goes on. As a side note, if any of you have done anything epic with your BK (slain a dragon, for instance) Be sure to point that out. THE 9 SLAYS A DRAGON! THE 2 ALSO SLAYS THE DRAGON, BUT IT TAKES 3 MORE SWINGS! Etc.

With those 4 you'll be set, there may be more that you want but that's all you'll need.

Ack! Okay Oregon, I can't get them ALL now. I need a first to play with, and make some money, and then I'll get the others down the line... I can't easily drop 200$ on blades. This is a process ;-)

I would go with the BK-09. If you have the BK-14, you have a blade that can handle anything that requires precision cutting. I have the BK-09 and I have chopped many trees down with that thing... and we are talking hardwood. I have only had to resharpen one time. The seven would also be a great choice, but if you need a chopper, those extra few inches will add a lot of swinging power and more room to hit with a baton. Just my humble 2 cents!

Hope you're not planning on deforesting in Oregon because I already did it with my 9. It was glorious. If you're going to slowly get them I vote the 7. I mean, the 9. Well maybe the 2.....

You mentioned that the 9 shines in batoning, which is certainly true, but it's the preeminent chopper out of the line (as of now, will likely change within a few months). I don't own a 7, so my opinion is subjective, but I can't imagine how the 7 could be more efficient at either chopping or batoning than the 9, or even equal in efficiency for that matter.

Since weight is not an issue, I can't see any rationale that puts the 9 behind any of your other choices. It does it all, and was doing it all for me long before I ever heard of Blade Forums or the Becker sub-forums. In other words, I'd give you the same first-hand-experience advice even if I wasn't a Beckerhead.

All that said, I have a feeling that my tune will change a bit when the Machax is rereleased. I may have to carry both at that time to have the best chopper in the Machax and the 9 for everything else. But shit, I'm damn near 60 years old. Who am I foolin', I ain't carrying two heavy blades more than across the living room, but my advice may very well change then!

I vote for the 2, its my favorite, and as good of all around knife as you can get, IMO. I've clubbed through many a piece of wood with it, and most of the time, the thickness just pops the wood apart, without the need to go all the way through. As far as clubbing big wood, you can always take it apart from the outside in, if its too thick.

Plus, the compact size, balance, and edge geometry, make it a great BOB knife.

Good luck, and keep us informed on what you get.

buy a big one, and a small one, in pairs. keeps the parcel balanced during shipping.

I vote for the BK2. It carries more easily. It does a great job with fine work. It's excellent at batoning (better than the BK9, imo). It's a good chopper though not as good as the BK9. It looks good on a weird orange background.

Buy a 2 before they are sold out again. And to balance the parcel as Bladite said, get an 11 or 14. Trust me it'll save you shipping.

Right so... A 2 I think.

Maybe next week a 9. Still love the shape of the 7 though. Maybe a 7 next week. I get a feeling I'm going to leave this thread broke... If I had trouble choosing before, now that more than one person said D) All of the above. Not really help choosing, well kinda... :)

Okay, so I just ordered the 2...

...And the 9. Something about a balanced box having good ergonomics.

Leaving this thread broke, as I originally predicted. I have no self control :) Good news is that mac and cheese and spam won't taste as bad with a knife to play with. Bad news is it's still spam.

Rotate that spam with tuna and you'll be fine.:)
Congrats on the new purchases.

On top of the being broke, this is, I mean we are, time vampires.

I did notice myself eying a log and thinking that I need to carve a logo in it for something... That'll only take like. A day. 5 tops.
