That maroon linen micarta that GEC uses surprised me.

I just took ownership of a #48 two bladed trapper with the maroon linen, and it's nice! I was trying to hold out for some natural stag or blond bone handles, but "settled" for the maroon.

This stuff is beautiful, and almost silky to the touch. I'm sure it's durable as well, and I'm delighted with the purchase. It's my first 2 bladed trapper, and farm boy like.

What a pleasant surprise. I like surprises like that.

Congrats!! Maroon is my favorite color on knife handles. It just looks so good!!

Lets see some pics!!

I don't have a Maroon GEC but I've got this knife that Mike Alsdorf made for me. Looks very similar to GEC's Maroon Micarta judging by the pics I've seen.

I haven't carried this one yet, but I like the way it looks. I wonder, will the grain become more or less pronounced as it ages?

the lighting on the maroon linen micarta is always deceiving to me. see it looks really maroon in your picture, but if i was to look at my 48, its much much darker. and you say this was never carried yet?

I have one just love like yours and have found the grain to become more pronounced with use. Looks better with time IMO. The micarta is one of my favorite of the #38's, just feels so smooth and well constructed without a sharp edge anywhere.

The linen should become more pronounced and lighter in color with use as some of the polish wears away.

Great looking knife!! Made around the time my Alsdorf slimline was made (in black linen). Mike had sold a wharncliffe trapper like mine in maroon linen right after mine and thought it looked great.

I think it depends on the cut of the micarta block and how it was polished. I think the darker stuff has more of the resin visible than the lighter stuff. My #82 came real dark (also a dark pic) but my #42 and #48s are lighter.

I took the picture under pretty bright, warm light. To my eye, it looks a bit darker in real life.

GEC #47 Viper in Maroon Linen Micarta. Not my best photography work, but this is definitely one of my favorites in the pocket. :)

I have a Bull Buster in the Maroon Micarta.

I sanded it a little to give it more of a matte finish. I love it. It's the knife in my overalls pocket on almost every coon hunt.
