Thanks to Bass Pro knife lovers outside the US of A can now thumb their noses at Cabela’s policy of not shipping ‘deadly weapons’ outside America. Keep your Alaskan Guide Cabela’s. I have just gotten a Bass Pro 110 with titanium coated CPM154 steel and Rosewood handle. Aside from the AG logo, that many people scrub off anyway, you would think that this Bass Pro knife was an AG. I am not a metallurgist but it is my understanding that CPM154 uses the same formula as ATS34, another great steel, but that P means that it was powder forged like S30V so I bet it is going to turn out to be awesome steel. The price is the same as Cabela’s and the one I got is tight as you could ask for and the knife is a credit to Buck. Check it out. I think it is a winner.

You know, a REAL Buck lover would relocate his entire family to the USA just so he could buy that Alaskan Guide.......... :D

I am sure it is a failing in me but I don't have a green card. No job, no money. No money, no Bucks. As John Cleese says, ‘adopt, adapt, and improve.’ Thanks again Bass Pro.

yes the 110's are legal here and when i tried to orded one cablelas would ship me one but they wanted another 20% on the total including shipping then add to that the 20% duty and import so that would have made it a pretty expensive knife and thats not counting the almost 20% exchange
ps if you clean out your spare room im movin down:) winters coming soon anyways :D

The Bass 110 looks like it has the [insert adjective here] coating on it...and the pic shows an Idaho tang stamp...what's up with that???

Does the back side have a CPM154 stamping???

Trax,
The Cabela's have the Bos stamp on the back so I would assume the CPM154 is too, but I'm interested to hear from WilltheBarb. Stamping has not been consistent on these to say the least. My original Alaskan Guide 110 has NO stamping on the front AT ALL but has the Bos stamp on the back. The stag Alaskan Guide I just bought has the 110 stamp with a 2004 year stamp on the front ( i guess they're using up left over blades)
Mike

Yes, the Bos stamp is there with CPM154 on the back side, front looks like any other current 110 with BUCK...110 l-...USA. Just like the blade from my AG.

Will ........ are you saying yours has a T laying on its left side ( ├ ) or is it a T laying on its right side ( ┤ ) ??

Darn Will,,, I was hoping it really was to the left..... what a find one of those would be............as long as it was stamped USA

Cabelas slogan "worlds foremost outfitter" really dosn't fit,e should be able to buy a knife from without all the red tape.I'm lucky i have a friend who lives in Oklahoma and she gets the knives i want from cabelas and sends them to me.

Here's an alternate route for those of you who are in the States.

I got an Academy sale Buck 110 at Xmas for under $20. (I expect similar sales will roll around this year.) $35 more for the blade swap, and now I too have a 110 in ATS-34 / CPM154. However, it doesn't have the rosewood scales that I like so much in my AG 110. The Bass Pro knife with rosewood might just be worth the extra few $$.

Glad you got your knife.

ATS-34, and CPM154 are essentially the same steel. The ATS-34 comes from overseas (mainly Japan), and the CPM154 is crucible's equivelant.

The only complaint I have ever had about crucible's CPM154 is that the blades I have owned with it, the edges tend to chip (in normal use). That's why when I ordered my latest buck custom, I ordered the ATS-34 before they switched over to the CPM154.

I'm not so sure if this is correct....

It is no secret that ATS-34 is virtually identical to 154CM, but is 154CM the same as CPM154?

And if so, then why the name change?

CPM 154Cm has the same properties as 154CM The CPM prefix means
Crucible Particulate/powder? Metallurgy... It is a fine powder that is put under extreme temp/pressure? to form the CPM 154CM steel.
As I understand it? may be a little off in the explanation. Alot like S30V is a powder before being made into steel...
The powdered steels are supposed to have better qualities than the standard steel... 20% better... Tons of info on blade steels online! too much to get into here!!!
