Just got back from my sons second grade class where I brought my kukris for his show and tell. Told all about how the basic culture, history, and benign uses for the kukris. the whole class really took an interest in them (girls and teachers too) His teachers were actually very thankful for the display, since the class is studying alot of geography, and it gave them something interesting to look into besides lines on a globe.

Just figured y'all would like to hear about that in this day and age of "zero tolerance" and "political correctness" Kids being expelled for butter knives and all that kinda stuff.

I know one or two of y'all have done the same thing. (Munk?) Kinda neat experience.

Great!

Glad you got to expose the kids to this type of thing without associated hysteria.

Yes, I've twice given a little talk and display at my son's school. As you say, everyone is very very interested.

I guess that's still OK in Alaska and Montana. What do you want to bet they wouldn't let you in the District of Columbia?

My wife and I have done goat and chicken exhibits, but never any large sharp objects.

Well, yeah: The goats and chickens would probably get nervous if you showed them a khuk...

I can't believe this would *ever* happen in Fairfax, Virginia where I live. Zero tolerance is an understatement.

I just love your story. Thanks very much for doing what you did and sharing it here.

That's heartening to hear. My brother was suspended his senior year because a teacher's aid mistook the camera tripod his friend was carrying as a gun. I'm 100% serious. The other kid was goofing off pretending to be a commando or something and using the tripod as a prop while my brother filmed it as part of his film class. The aide saw this from across the courtyard and sounded the alarm. Since the school was locked down, someone had to be held accountable and it turned out to be them. Makes me angry to this day, because he didn't do a thing wrong.

I remember taking a small toy aircraft carrier to school for show and tell. I broke it on some kid's head before I got there. :D Ah... those were the days.

Roadrunner. Of course he did something wrong. He upset the status quo

Scarrrrry Bruise...

HollowDweller You sure you don't live in Kentucky?

Runs With Scissors. Good Job.

45-70. Go back to bed before you upset someone!

Same here in Ohio. I get nervous having along my Spyderco Delica when on school grounds with my kids. That you were able to take a bunch of khuks. to school and show them off is pretty amazing.
