We went out to get a sympathy card for a family friend who lost her husband. While we were out I decided to run to the big box sporting goods store next door to get some 22 shells . My lovely wife said she would wait in the car. while waiting on the counter guy to get 22's I found this on the clearance rack

H&R handi-rifle, they haven't been made in 2 years in the one caliber I always regretted not getting when they were available 35 Whelen .
It was less than the last H&R shotgun I bought we are trying to get together a hog hunt it ought to be a hog hammer

Good score on the H&R. I've always liked the simple design of them myself. But tell the truth, did you have to take the wife out for a fancy drive thru dinner afterwards?:D

That caliber/rifle should make a great hunting combo but I'm confused about the concept of just walking into a store and buying 22s. I remember those days but it was years ago.

The .22 shortage seems to be over for the last several months. Prices at the big box stores are now 50% higher than before the shortage, and even higher at small shops, but the Dick's Sporting Goods by me have all you want, and so does Walmart.

The shortage may be over for some but not anywhere near my home. I check the local "mart" often and I'm lucky to pick up 100 rounds in a month. I have had better luck at Sportsman's Warehouse but it's an hour drive. The few local shops and gun shows have rimfire but I'm not desperate enough to pay their inflated prices. I'll check Dick's Sporting Goods next times I'm in the area. Hope to see a range report on the H&R.

Dick's had 15-25 boxes each of Remington thunder bolts and golden bullet hp 500 rd box 100 rd boxes of Remington, 50 rd boxes of eley target etc 7 to 10 cents a round though

Are you going to handload ammo for the 35? I had an accurate load worked up for a friend but I lost most of my reloading equipment including notes/records to a flood recently. I'm pretty sure I used 3031 and a 250 gr Nosler but I can't remember the load.
*thanks for the heads-up, I bought 2 bricks of Winchester 22 hp today at Dick's

Went to Dicks last night and they had hundreds of boxes of .22s. They even had cases of them on the floor and no limits......
