That's it: I'm switching to 'economy' Victorinox SAKs

I've owned a couple of Huntsman II economy SAKs for years (see my pix in the SAK attack thread) -- I found them on clearance at Walgreens...

I just purchased an economy Climber [EDIT: I meant Camper] from DavemackAOL on eBay and it's just about the perfect SAK for my needs. A pair of scissors would be great (an economy Huntsman Plus would be ideal), but I can live with this Climber [EDIT: sorry, I meant Camper].

The regular (celluloid?) scales are certainly durable, but I like the scratch-hiding abilities of the economy nylon scales. I'll keep buying SAKs (:o ) but my EDCs will be economy models.

Must look into swapping out celluloid scales on a Huntsman Plus... Hmm...

MG, I agree the nylon scales to hold up to dings and scratches much better than the cellidor as well as improve grip,I just wish they had the inlaid shield and were available seperate for a couple bucks!

I almost got the cheaper climber on amazon. But the inlaid shield pushed me towards paying the extra $1.60:o .

I often buy my SAKs used. I prefer the cellidor scales, and my premium camper was still only about $3.50 (the scales were well scuffed). My new economy Sportsman (II) was $5 at Walgreens on Clearance. I don't use it because I like the small knife blade on my $3 used premium Vic Spartan.

The pics in the first post show the tweezers and toothpick. I also thought the economy scales lacked the slots.

Nope, all the economy models I've seen (Climber, Camper, Sportsman II) come with tweezers and toothpick. I believe the Solo has nylon scales with no tweezers/toothpick -- it looks like the scales on a German Army knife except red and without the Bundeswehr crest.

(I believe APS is referring to the Huntsman Plus' pin and pen slots, which that model has in addition to the standard tweezers/toothpick.)
