Hello everyone, last week I decided on a little project for my HI AK Bowie by kami Bura,it included a kydex sheath,a paracord sling with an additional small knife and a pouch with basic useful items, here are the results
The blade is 51oz,20" long and a little more than 1/2 thick at the middle,I patina'd Frankenstein on it since I have a habit of naming my favourite blades and this one along with BK-9 I truly love,I think the name is fitting since the whole rig has dozens of bits and pieces and the overall strength of the setup is beyond what I might ever need but overkill makes me sleep good at night so I beefed up almost everything I could, like the triple paracord lanyard and the double wrapped handle with wire in the middle for ridges (seem to help with grip, the handle by itself is horn and slippery),I didnt need to sharpen the blade very much but I still gave it a toothy edge.
The sling has about 180-230ft of paracord all together, with 7 core strands and 2 outside wrappings and a little bundle at the end,it has 2 karabiners rated at around 6-7 tons, some titanium/aliminium alloy from what i understand.I also wanted a skinner/utility knife so I attached a Buck Paclite since its easy to sharpen and Buck's heat treatment is amazing. The pouch has a lighter, matches, magnesium rod,zip ties, stropping block, emergency blanket, some duct tape, bandaids, alcohol tissue, wire saw, signal mirros,SAK,compass and a needle with thread.
I wanted to make a setup that would not break under normal or very harsh conditions, something that would last a long time and something that wouldnt give me any second thoughts when I use it,originally I wanted to get a Busse FFBM but I just happened to come across this and Im glad I did,I think I can safely replace an axe, prybar and shovel with this knife if I had too,Buras work is amazing, the level of craftsmanship is astounding.
I would also like to hear any suggestions you have on how I can make this better in terms of durability, critique is more than welcome.
Feel free to post your choppers or knife setups you have,or just the knives that you modded to be truly to your liking.
Happy holidays!
