Hi All! I have finally had time to upload photos from Montana> I took my 0500 MUDD and a smaller custom EDC fixed blade by Eddie White......
Enjoy!
The scenery...
A quick size shot....the smaller wharncliffe is 6 inches overall....
A user user shot....(I battoned through the wood and you are looking at one half
)
I also sliced up sandwiches, lettuce, chicken, and some hamburgers.....(no pics
)
to show thickness...thats a Spyderco Rescue with it.....
thoughts.....
Blade: suited for heavier tasks such as splitting wood and cutting meat into rough pieces. It does not fail at lighter tasks but does struggle in some respects.
Pivot/Lock: Absolutely the best feature of the knife. It is fast and smooth but more importantly controlled, I would never see this lock loosening at all from larger amounts of inertia opening. The pivot stood up well against 20+ year old hardwood, in the pics,being able to batton and chop with no ill effects. To put it simply, the best lock in the industry.
Handle: Meh....at first it did not work well for me due to the clip positioning my fingers in a hot spot. So, I removed the clip. it carries well in the pocket but better om the belt. Without a clip the grip is excellent in multiple positions.
Overall: It is a heavy work knife. I could confidently carry this instead of my RD-4 (3/16th thick) when I go woods walking and on camping trips. It really shines when paired with a smaller knife like the Wharnie! A solid 9 out of 10 and only a 9 becuase with it's much more robust build it loses a little practicallity for every day use.
My first in depth review. Does The Family approve?
Enjoy!
