I ran into another hardware store that had a few US Schrades left and so of course I had to pick them up.

The one that impressed me the most was the 12UH Roadie.

I like it's compact size when closed and I feel like the blade size is perfect. The blade looks like it's to big to have come from such a slim compact handle. Maybe it's just me...

The best part is that this one has the best action I've had in a slippie. Snaps open and closed with authority but at the same time is not hard to open.

This one is a user for sure and it already found itself a spot in the rotation.

That is all....:)

Great find! Most of the Ace / True Values in my part of Chicagoland (greater Schaumburg) have closed out the Schrade displays. ...also disturbing is that a lot of stores are not replacing the displays. I like the Roadie because it is easy to grab the blade to open without even messing with the nail nick.

I tried several small town hardware stores this past Wednesday here in Central Illinois. Two out of four looked like I was nuts looking for knives, one had a jug of no name chinese made lockbacks on the counter for $5.95 each and the last had a display of Taylor branded Schrades, S&W and Winchester knives. Looking for the hardware store with old stock knives is like finding the garage sale with something more interesting than children's clothing and toys, you can search all day and find few promising places to buy.

I have spent many an hour staking out hardware stores. There is one by me that has an old Schrade display, the only thing left is an old timer middleman and some big old timer lockback. My fiance would seriously question my sanity if I cleaned them out, but it is soooo tempting. Can you usually talk them out of the display box too?

Depending on the particular display and the owner's mood, they will often sell them if there are no more knives to display. Price is open to negotiation. You can find displays on the Collectors of Schrade site (open for viewing sticky post above) to estimate the age of the display you are interested in.
