I saw the vintage tribute 110 and 112 release back in '22 and fell over myself to order one. Until I saw the price. What am I still years later not understanding? Are you paying for zero electrical tool hand fitting only by members of the Buck family themselves???

They seem to be finally slowly selling out and I'm trying to force my hand but it still feels like to huge of a horse pill to swallow. Am I missing something obvious???

It's designed to target collectors. Hence the price. I would rather hold out and try to find the originals if that is what I wanted. These are only replicas (or remakes) of the originals which I wouldn't mind having but not at that price.

I'm just confused since you can buy the 112 auto in s30v for a significant amount less. I get targeting collectors but yeesh.

Not sure I understand the 110/112 issue you are talking about. Can you post a photo or link?

Well, the person looking for a piece of Buck knife history is probably not shopping (at that point in time) for one of the autos. The Tribute knife was purely aimed at folks wanting to experience the original 112 formula as it originally came. No nail nick, squared off bolsters, 440C blade, and so on. Even the box looks vintage, I believe.

I get what they were going for, and I didn't buy one (even though you're seeing discounts on these as various dealers can't move them at the original price) and I do love me some 112, so all it'll take is seeing a price I can live with, and one of these will eventually make it into the collection. Now, if they make a 110 version of this....oooof, sign me up, first in line*.

* I know, the 110 hasn't had many dramatic changes made, but still!

Almost positive (as in definitely maybe) they released the 110 and 112 at the same time. KC still lists the 112 for sale but I'd have to look around if anyone still has the 110.

M Maximumbob54 thanks for posting the link.
Is the 110 release that you talk about the 50th Anniversary, the Lochsa, Weld, Federal and Magnolia?

Yes, I think Buck has over produced and over priced some of their special releases. Marketing to a niche can't be easy or exact.
I personally would rather have an original, but then I don't collect, I accumulate, willy-nilly. 😊

Same. Sometimes I look back and ask myself why I bought that...

And all I know about it is in that link's description.

"For its 50th Anniversary, the original 1972 model inspired this 112 Ranger as part of the 2022 Legacy Collection."

That four pack, man, I'd do very bad, fairly questionably, morally grey, and possibly illegal things in order to be able to score one of those. I'd carry every one of 'em!!

I don't think a 110 was involved with this release.
I owe you a beer for being correct. Brains like a steel trap, old and rusty.

2022 was a 112, 212, 250, 501, and 842. Had to dig a little to find a listing.

There must have been leftovers of a different collection with a 110 because I remember having minimal interest only because the 110's blade length means I can hardly ever carry one. But here I am now years later still waffling over the 112's princely price tag.

I found a listing for that four pack in a display case and my jaw dropped. I'm not a display case kind of guy but dang, just dang.

Occasionally one of the original micarta 112s shows up on the bay for about the same price, but normally for a like new original micarta 112 expect to pay at least $400.

That being said, macassar ebony 112s dating 1974-1980 with 440C blades, squared bolsters, and no nail nick are easy to find in like new condition for $100 or less.
