The 329 Freedom Trapper c.1988. Made by Camillus and sold thru Smoky Mountain Knife Works. Yellow delrin handles and 2 versions, the standard 329 trapper knife alone and the Freedom Trapper version shown below. I have a note saying 5,000 of these were made but do not recall the source. The version of the pledge printed in the lid does not have "Under God". Variations of the Pledge go back to the 1890's but "under god" gains traction in the late 1940's. The term was credited to Lincoln's Gettysburg address phrase "that the nation shall, under God, have a new birth of freedom." I could imagine that the Buck family would not have approved the Pledge variation printed in the box lid had they known.

Interesting, a knife made c. 1988 did not have "under god" in the pledge. I wonder what the reason / decision was for this omission.
There is room for the words. Aesthetically, using the words would not affect the layout of the text. My curiosity is peaked !

PS - great looking knife !

PPS - is that a belt buckle ?

Did a quick Google. No reason for the missing words given, but it seems these were a smkw version.

From a different website; 2016 listed on that website from "300Bucks"

"Original SMKWs versions came in a box with a fancy belt buckle with eagle on it. With pledge of allegiance printed under lid, the old version [pre 1940's ?], before they added "Under God" after one nation."
