Everyone is free to their own opinion, but the BK9 is the best in the current lineup. Yeah, I know a lot of folks here like the BK2. I've got one, and it is a good knife, in spite of its own sheath dulling it. But the 9 out chops it and out battons it. Can you hold a 9 in your hand and honestly think "Yeah, the BK(any other model) could do the job better"? I can't. The 9 is a chainsaw in a nailclipper world. It's a tiger in a Petsmart. It's a great white in a guppy tank. Machete, bowie, hatchet.... it beats them all at their own game. I can't hold it without my mind screaming "YYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Well you sound very excited about the BK9 and it is one of my favorites.
Chainsaw in a nailclipper world might just be stretching it.
great post.

Bk9 is nice, and when I hold it I feel like a bad-@$&. I generally play those feelings off especially to my wife. I say things like "you know this thing can process a lot of wood", and "I can baton through a much larger log with this". But these are all justifications for the real reason I bought it.

Although I can carve a little better with the BK2 and I usually reach for it before the BK9. But, the 9 is the most fun.

I had the 9 and traded it away. At the time, it was due to my inability to cope with the sheath. Now that I'm past all that, the 9 is still pretty darn low on my list of knives to buy. I got off the chopper bandwagon a while ago. Now they really just don't make much sense to me. You're going out on a limb to say the BK9 beats the hatchet at its own game.

Beastly? Yes. A good chopper? Yes. Best in the lineup? That is a hard argument to make. The BK9 makes a horrible BK11 substitute.

I love your enthusiasm though. Glad you found the knife that does the trick for you. You could do a whole helluva lot worse.

Dude. I love the 9 I can totally understand your enthusiasm. For some reason holding it does make me want to yell too lol.....

Makes me wanna get out and chop down a giant sequoia, talk about enthusiasm. :D

The 9 is one of my favorite big knives. I am glad I put micarta on it too. I have an Esee Junglas but I like bringing my BK-9 instead. It's more manoueverable , lighter, only an inch shorter, not as wide, but chops 95% as well. I wish the sheath was all kydex as the cordura holds dirt, but I can live with it. When it dies, I'll make my own anyhow.Probably will never have too.
I've kept up to guys just as experienced as I am that where swinging bigger machetes and choppers plus it was easier to swing when stuck in dense underbrush. I always bring the 9 and a smaller 4-5" bushcraft knife with me in the bush. The smaller knife usually varies but the 9 is always there. My favorite large knife the BK-9 is.

haha, I love the analogies. I agree, the 9 is a beast of a knife.
