How many of you have "the addiction"?

I didn't know a single flippin thing about knives 4 years ago. I had one pocket knife that i got at a gas station, and a crappy fixed blade that i couldn't keep an edge on, and i didn't have much interest in getting more.

Then i joined BF. I got interested in "the art" and bough my first custom. Since then, i have purchased over 40 different knives from skinners, to choppers to folders, most of which i NEVER use... but i love them all...

and it seems like every time i have a couple hundred bucks to spare, i go looking for my next knife. I realized last week that i've spent well over 2 grand on knives in the last 2 years.

WTF IS WRONG WITH ME!!

I know i'm not alone. I've seen some of the collections here.

Yeah too bad it couldn't be an addiction to buying real estate... An obsession that makes you a millionaire eventually.

:D

I don't have the bug anywhere as bad as you, I try very hard to keep it in check by only buying knives that I can and will use. Addictive behaviour aside, it's a very fun hobby and the learning to sharpen side of it is very useful to friends and family. I'd love to learn to make my own fixed blades eventually.

Honestly, I think the love of fine edged tools is something genetic for us. For so many thousands of years, bladed tools were so integral to our survival that it's ingrained into our primal instincts!

That's the line I give my wife anyway.

here, here it is OK

The first step is - My name is Roman and I have a serious knife addiction.
The second step is deciding if you want to embrace it or keep it in check (or at least try :)
My knife addiction causes a huge drain on personal finances and a serous strain in a relationship with my wife.
You know the saying: Happy wife - happy life. So I try to keep my wife .. er addiction in check.

I was addicted before I ever knew BF existed. I bought a couple of used Kershaws from a friend, then got another one as a Christmas gift. Then I bought a Half-Ton on the big auction site, and I think that's the point when I became hooked. I've spent almost $1K on knives myself in the past year.

Ah I remember many years ago when I reached two grand on spent knives and thought it was simply just too much!

I am at least in a slowdown state. I will never ever truly be cured.

Man, I hear you. I went from just having my trusty old Kershaw Sapphire to having nearly $2k in my knife box in less than a year. My buying is starting to slow down now though, but only because I'm moving on to more expensive knives! God help us all...

At least it's not an addiction to hookers, coke, and gambling. And it will taper off when you've maxed out all your credit cards and you're selling knives to pay your mortgage.
