One of the things I like most about the knife world is the people you get to know. Last year, a new member of Britishblades.com (user name 'Grommit')emailed me several times with knifemaking questions. During the Christmas holiday he visited my workshop and many hours were spent making knives, drinking tea, smoking and generally putting the world to rights!
During this time the idea you're about to see took shape.
I've often considered doing something to help the people who have served in the Armed Forces and meeting Grommit helped put the idea into action.
The knife we've made is going to be sold in the near future, with all the proceeds going to the 'Help for Heroes' charity.
The knife was design was choosen by Grommit, and is 11 1/4" overall with a 6 1/2" blade of flat ground 1095. Fittings are 303 stainless. The tang is tapered with red fibre liners. The handle material is a Micarta type laminate and was made by Grommit from the desert pattern DPM uniform he wore whilst serving with The Light Dragoons battle group during Operation Herrick 10 in Helmand Province during 2009.
The case was made by Mr Ian Barrett, a very talented joiner, who made it from English oak 'the old fashioned way' using only handtools.
The knife is dedicated to all those who have lost their lives.
Grommit's real name has been 'censored' for obvious reasons and he declined to have his picture posted for the same reason. (I also suspect it's 'cos he's an ugly sod!:D)
Here's my fat, ugly self

I'd also like to thank the other people who help with the project. My Father, Louis Bailey who liased with Ian Barrett with the case making, Bladeforum's Big Rick for his knowledge of knife collecting and Ben Powles(Bladeforum's Wobbly) who kindly designed and made the certificate.
Thanks for looking.:)

That's a really good looking knife and a terrific concept. I hope it raises some good coin for a most worthy cause.

great looking knife Ian, and the 'my'carta concept wraps up all sorts of interesting concepts into a very tidy package.
Nice sheath and presentation box as well:thumbup:

Nice work Ian!

I like the Loveless influence. Dimensions are similar to a Wilderness (with a spear point blade) and the pierced guard (similar to the one on the Chute knife) looks very useful. The soldered 303 stainless steel guard is also pretty impressive! :)

Outstanding work both on the knife and especially the cause.

We can't do enough for our service men-women.

Hello Guys,

regards,
Brian
