A week ago I got call from my daughters who were returning home to Alaska from a month long road trip asking me to fly down and drive them through Canada. I met them and nine of our grandchildren in Great Falls Montana on Wednesday. We made it home in 48 hours. Although I drove this road 26 times from 1971 to 1994 my last trip was 15 years ago. The biggest changes that I saw was lot of development in northern Alberta and BC and that the Alcan is now paved. It would be easy to spend a month taking side trips on this journey.

I envy your trip. Always wanted to make that drive . Got as far as Port Angeles Washington & found my handgun was a big NO-NO .

In retrospect ,coulda took it to a gun dealer & had him ship it home . Too late smart,'eh ?

One of the greatest life changing experiences of my life was my first trip over the Alcan when I hitch-hiked north when I was 17.
The highlight of this trip was taking my grown daughters to the church, at Hazel Bluff near Westlock Alberta, that my grandfather helped build 100 years ago. My grandparents and many members of my fathers family are buried in the grave yard there. I had only been there once before almost 30 years ago. It as 6 AM and the fog in the valleys was lifting. I felt a sense of place that I had never felt before.

Sounds like you had a great time. Especially the part about reconnecting your daughters to your family history.

I've only driven it once, January 1977. It'd be nice to see it without snow, especially now that its paved.

brother and partner;went up for 6or 7 wks.canandians are knee jerk crazy abount guns. their option; 12 gag.with buckshot.need to use a sling so you can fish while carrying protection.slugs offer more stopping power however;buckshot to head is best safety option.
