Greg and I were in the hotel lobby chatting about knives at the CKG pre-show when he told me about his plans to make laminated knives. I was most pleased to learn about this as I am a big fan of the concept.
Fast forward a few weeks later and I was promoted to Vice President at work and I NEEDED a new knife to commemorate the occasion. I immediately picked up the phone and called Greg
Greg graciously offered to make a laminated version of any one of his designs. I chose the Operative as I still regret not having bought one when I had the chance. The fin was the most appealing part of this now discontinued design.
Upon further discussion, it became clear that the Operative was not the ideal design as it did not meet all of my needs. For example, I wanted something cord-wrapped, which is not possible with finger grooves. So I left it up to Gregs (evil) creative genius as long as it has a fin.
Greg turned to another source for inspiration.
Indeed, the resemblance is uncanny, wouldnt you say?
Much like Alien, my knife has some teeth! A sharks tooth menuki and lanyard tail!
As you can see in the above and below pics, the Japanese cord-wrap, done by none other than Kirby Lambert is top notch! Some say Kirby is the best in the business and I would tend to agree! Thanks Kirby!
