I've never been a fan of the DC blades. I prefer satin because I can take a Scotchbrite disc and get it looking good as new quickly. I see there are many people on this forum who love the DC finish. What is the allure? Is it easily maintained? Is it the non-glare properties that people like? Just curious.

I think you'll like the DC. Satin and DC are my favs. This gray coating on my PT5 is cool too, but this is an exception, I do not like coated blades but The PT5 HAS to look this way... BAD! :D

A near record length post from Lycosa!

Bead blasted finishes just look cool. I don't worry too much about "restoring" a finish - nothing wrong in my eyes with a blade that shows it's been used.

Satin is generally expensive around these parts, so double cut often gives an option for a slightly less expensive alternative that still lets you have bare steel.

Did I mention it looks cool? :D

Doublecut has a certain texture to the blade that feels super fine finished and yeh it looks cool.

Sadly, the only DC blade I own is unused... it's a super secret prototype and my only safe queen, but the temptation to beat on it is very strong. I hope they release them soon, so I can save the proto as a bit of an investment and use the normal release version.

When I first started collecting Bussekin knives, I didn't use the majority of them. I decided about a month ago to make all of my knives users. Using them doesn't seem to lower the value much on the exchange. Although I'm sure that one day I'll buy one that I wont be able to bring myself to use!

D/C for none glare for me....but it's other benefits are that for food prep it still shows stains well enough to know when it's clean....it does achieve a ghetto satin after a while from cleaning....and is not totally glare free...but it is a nice compromise....especially if you want something cheaper but just as good...

Having to buy Satin and consider D/C'ing though is a real "HURDLE" for me....why Jerry does'nt offer D/C more I don't know :(....for a "combat" company it ought to be a standard finish....

This often has me thinking of selling my satin blades rather than downgrading them to D/C and losing money....especially having to pay on top for the D/C'ing....and there are no cheap DIY bead blasting machines that I have come across....wish there were and any help here would be VERY welcome...I have a load of blades I would like to D/C....

I don't know what your definition of "cheap" is, but Harbor Freight in the US sells a bead blasting cabinet for $135. I'm sure you can find somewhere on your side of the pond that sells something similar.

Alternatively, if you already own an air compressor, a bead blasting gun for that compressor should be cheap, and you could make your own cabinet to use it inside of, if you want to contain the mess.

Thanks MM...I will check it out...HF stuff is available under a different name often over here....

I like the less-glare, the overall looks of it, and the texture (it's grippy-er than satin).

also, I don't know about where you live, but I found a local shop that'll BB for $20...

check around, because I had my ASH re-beadblasted for $20 with a 48hr turnaround.

;)

Love the satin - it looks great and can be easily cleaned up. I once bought a DC/BB SAR-4 because of a rumor that it wouldn't show kydex scratches -but mine sure did - anyone else?. Also heard DC/BB rusts easier than satin, but I've never had any INFI rust on me yet - any comments?

DC finishes do zero to hide kydex scuffs or at least that has been my experience... Now if only Busse did a satin finish with the grain running parallel with the edge, problem solved. Haha.
