Hello all, this is my first official thread and I figured Id open up with something I know a thing or 2 about, the Kukri. I have had an interest in the blade for quite some time, and finally got with the nice folks at Toratoratora.co.uk, and ordered a couple a few years ago. Since then the outdoors and kukri have gone hand in hand for me.

They are heavy tools, but will get you through what needs to be done, and the good ones are far from delicate.

The pros:
Good chopping power
durable
lighter than an axe of comparable size
Custom knife quality in a cheaper package
The cons:
pretty heavy and takes up space
develops a slight surface rust quickly, not bad, but irritating

And now for a picture or 2 out where I like to be:

Thank you for reading and until later, have fun and stay safe

I got an ontario kukri not too long ago. It was my first and was semi-interested in kukris. Now i am in love w/ them and have read that while they (ontartios khuk) are good they are not the best. what do some of the kukri heads think of this http://yhst-7333098713883.stores.yahoo.net/18ingaramsp.html are they reputable, reliable, i am weary of buying something from overseas. also how would this particular style work for camping and choping.
p.s. if anyone has something similar that they want to get rid of for some cash plus hook-up a kukri noob with something quality i am deffinatly interested. thanks all.

p.s.s. those are some cool pics

Himalayan Imports is a good maker, but if you want the best go to torablades.com, or toratoratora.co.uk. Here are some more pictures of the 2 I bought from them

From left to right:
British Pattern 2 officers kukri, unknown manufacturer(Gift from neighbor) Windlass steelcrafts Mk43(Gift, passed it on to friend) and my 2 purchases, a Highland Kukri(Dui Chirra, 2 fullers) and a custom one of a kind Dharan Trench Kukri

As you can see, although all are tough as nails, but the two Toras have a superior fit and finish over the other two

Cool pics, looks like some nice country. what other knives or tools do you bring with you? thanks for posting, Gene

i looked at the toratoratora.co.uk site and found one i liked in style and price. *warning: ultra noob question*: whats a fuller (single, tripple)

LOL, you may have opened up a can of worms there! There are some pretty die-hard HI fans here! I only have one HI blade, a little baby BAS pattern blade with a single fuller, but I love it. It's tiny for a khukri, but still a good sized knife. I also have something similar to the second one from the left in the pic you posted. I've done a little re-profiling of the blade and sanded the ring off of the handle and managed to make it usable. I'll get something better sometime, but it'll do for now. I like the looks of the Toras you have.

Enix, keep an eye on the Himalayan Imports forum. Most every weekday Yangdu posts a "deal of the day" thread with some great buys and/or unusual items.

Salamander: thanks for the tip, I didnt even know there was a HI forum.

Also no worries, i discovered what a fuller is. forget all flame remarks that came to mind when that bit is read on my previous post.

No problem enix. . . There are so many different sub-forums that are part of bladeforums that it's easy to miss one. And as for the "noob" question, no problem there either. Everyone here seems pretty forgiving to the noobs. I've asked my share of silly questions myself. I've finally learned to use the forum search before posting. It helps keep me from sounding dumb or re-starting old thoroughly talked about topics. . . usually. :o

Worded wrong, sorry. I have played with a HI, but the finish is not as nice IMHO. Still excellent blades

Well, thats a whole new can of worms. I have an AWOL bag, you can see me wearing it in the last picture. There's everything from extra knives, water purification, etc.

Toolwise however, I carry a SOG t-60 multi-tool, BM32 Morpho, Spyderco waved Delica, cheapie Colt fixed blade, and a GLOCK E-tool. And a sjambok for some extra reach if I need it for...whatever

No apology necessary, I was just joking around. :) I don't really think anyone would think you were saying anything bad about HI, just stating a preference. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Welcome to the forums by the way! (Forgot to say that in the other post)

cool stuff, looks like a good area for bumming around the woods too. What kind of jacket are you wearing?

(an indiana jones fan, are you? 8p)

Although not a huge fan...It was a nickname during high school. The jacket is just about as old as I am, and was the first gift my mother got my father. I place it at about 30 years old.

A man after my own heart. I've played with lots of combinitions of knife tools in the outdoors here in Arizona, I keep coming back to 2. A BAS and my howler. I EDC a waved manix. Between these and a multi, I feel good for everything. Welcome to the forum.
