I am somewhat new to this forum an have posted a few threads about the khuks I have purchased from H.I.. Before I purchased one, I spent countless hours reading here deep into the archives to present, just trying to get a perspective on these blades and the people who buy them.

I finally jumped in, when my khuk's arrived, I was in awe. I have done my research on these and know some of the history of them and the men who make them. Knowing what they are made from, and how the material is selected.

As Uncle Bill said, the blade picks its owner. Each blade tells a story, the sweat and toil that's put into each one. As I look over the blades, I am reminded that these are crafted one at a time, not a cookie cutter blade made in a factory that stamps out hundreds of blades a day, and all are perfect.

A Kami can make the same type of blade many times, but each one has a slight difference, never the same. It could be a harder hammer blow to one side making a fuller lower on that side than the other, or a habaki that shows where a pair of pliers held it tightly while fitting it to that blade, blood grooves that are not perfect on both sides, handle rings that have slight differences.

What does that mean to me?? Well it shows that a man crafted this with his bare hands and feet, on a anvil sometimes smaller than an old sledgehammer head. These differences give each blade a soul and an ability to tell a story.

"There are many Khuks, but this one is mine". How true is that.:D

It makes me feel good, knowing that I make a difference in the quality of life these fine men who craft these wonderful pieces of art have. So if you are reading this and are on the fence about purchasing one, jump of my friend and get one, you will not regret it, and if you are an elder to the forum thank you for reading. Regards Frank.

Well said, Frank!
Like all of us here and the Kamis that craft them , each blade is a unique individual.

An excellent posting pugs75.

I, too, am new to the forum. I was drawn to the khukuri blade looking at the Cold Steel web site and through web searching found HI and this forum. While I'm sure that CS makes a good product, I am fascinated with getting a tool that has been part of peoples survival for hundreds of years and is made by these same people on the other side of the globe. Yet. these craftsmen are at the lowest of their social order and can barely make a meager living.

I don't own a khukuri yet. Very soon I hope to. The Chainpuri seems to speak to me (and it won't be the last-HIKV). After the reading I've done here, I wonder what its going to feel like when I hold that first one in my hands.

Thanks again for the posting.

Rick

It seems that while I was posting this, Yangdu is getting an 18" Chainpuri ready to ship tomorrow. SWEET. Of course, I'll be away from home for the next week so I'll have to wait a little while for the experience. Here's to a new beginning. Thank you Yangdu.

Ditto here; I started out as just another newbie asking questions, now I have 2 khuks and an R6!

Frank, I keep this thought at the front of my mind as there are few other things we can purchase that benefit so many others as do HI products.

I look forward to your further informative posts.

The Chainpuri seems to speak to me...

Rick

Rick you have been chosen by a great Khukuri, one whose call I only recently heard, but the 15inch Chainpuri by Vim I have will one day have some bigger siblings to keep it company.

Welcome to the HI community and please post your first impressions when you finally get to grips with your Chainpuri.
