The Answer Is Blowing In The Wind

Well, THAT wasn’t exactly MY question but it does answer a question!

A sight seldom seen in the little hamlet of Amherst. Took me by surprise this morning while having my Friday morning coffee.

You see kilts every now and then here in Norfolk. I wear one a couple times a month. For formal and charity events and when in the pulpit, I almost always wear a kilt. Got married in one, probably be buried in one. I often wear one at the knife show in Harrisonburg, and at hammer-ins. I have Utili-kilts for BBQ's, working in the yard, and sometimes in the shop.

Your photo shows that the first fellow is ether wearing a hand-me-down kilt or one he bought off the rack. The length is probably 4" too long. When standing, it should hit the top of the knee, as in the second fellow. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like they are wearing Ghillies. They could be pipers or dancers going to practice for an event.

April is Tartan Month for Sotts, sort of like July for the USA. Tartan day is April 6th (like 4th of July). Throughout April, there will be dinners, dancing, parades in some places, Scotch Whisky tasting, and bagpipes!!!

Dan, you bring back fond old memories. In the 70's and 80's, I spent a lot of time in Amherst digging amethyst crystals on the Schaar farm. Old lady Schaar died, and they sold the farm and closed the pit. I was told the family buried her under the old apple tree on the hill.

Hope to see you next weekend.
