2 weeks ago I got a Boker Plus Apparo. I liked it straight out of the box, but the factory sheath is less than stellar. It still puzzles me how can Boker make some really nice looking knives while their sheaths suck so bad! So even before I've put it thru the paces I made a sheath for it. Started with a heavy duty belly piece of veg tan :

Originally, I was just gonna follow the original sheath design but then went a different route :

It kinda feels like I'm carrying a Randall now :D

Feedback, good or bad, is always appreciated :D

Its nothing personal zulu, most who ask for honest feedback dont really react well when its given. They either ignore it or attack like they were slighted.

Its something I've been fighting for quite some time, if you want honest feedback ie constructive criticism you MUST be able to handle it. We have so much to offer here in truly master level experience and most all of them are more than willing to give their years of experience to help to improve the craft. But the few who cannot accept it make it difficult.

This is not poking at you, its an explanation why its hard to get true feedback and criticism.

If you want it, and can handle some of us letting you know where you need to improve, then by all means lets let you show the others how to handle it with grace in the way its intended, to help you. :)

By all means sir, I will take both positive and negative criticism in the same stride, the internet has allowed me to develop a thick skin :D So, what is your professional opinion?

Speaking as someone who has yet to make to make their first sheath (I've just been practicing on scraps) here is my newbie opinion:

Pros:
-like the over all design
-suits the knife very well
-like the color
-like the personalized crest
-seems very sturdy
-undoubtedly a better sheath than the typical ones sent by manufacturers (ASSUMING there is a welt...can't tell from the pictures)

Cons:
-would prefer to see the skin side of the leather on the tab at the bottom where the cord is attached
-stitching at point on knife not the same width on each side

Possible Improvements:
-polishing up the edges would really help nail it home

Can't wait to see your next one:)

Very nice. One thing I think would make it even better would be some edge creasing on the keeper strap, belt strap and the flap of the pouch. I think it gives a nice finished look while still keeping things simple and clean. And I really like the ring set up between the sheath and the belt strap. I'm going to have to give that a try on my next project!

Thanks for your input! I realize now I forgot to put a pic of the side, there is a welt and the edges were polished. The tab at the end where the leg tie is looped is on the skin side, but it was dyed, some glue got smudged there and that's why it has a 2-tone look. I did not polish the edges of the strap as it was beveled after dyeing and I liked the contrast, polishing would have made it darker. Though about creasing the edges and I agree, gives it a finished and classic look. keep 'em coming!

Excellent job on the sheath! I just bought a Boker Apparo today and was checking for any options for replacement sheaths. Thanks for demonstrating innovation in replacement sheath options. Just a new guys thoughts!
