The Army recently created and authorized a new badge for wear. The particulars for who can wear the badge are located here:

The image on the left is the official badge. I would really much rather have the badge on the right. Anyone with casting and jewlery experience care to take on the challenge? :-)

The knife depicted in the official badge is the M9 Bayonet. It has been produced by Ontario Knives, LanCay, Buck, and a few others. It's a fine knife, but I've not carried one in over a decade. :-)

p.s. The modified badge depicts a Ken Onion "Swoop Bump." I don't own one of those, either, but what a sweet knife.

I presume this badge is to be given to those not qualified for the Combat Infantryman's Badge? I believe in WWII a variation of the CIB was given to medics. This badge had a stretcher in the place of the Charleville musket on the CIB. In modern warfare, many others besides infantrymen find themselves getting shot at. This new badge must be for them. The decoration would be superfluous for qualified infantrymen; for them the CIB is sacred. My late father had many awards, but he was most proud of his CIB.

God Bless our fine people in uniform. May they come home safe, sound, and soon.
