I do not know why I am having such a problem finding a comfortable EDC blade. The XL, Large, and Mediums all fit like a glove for me. But there is always something off on the little guys. Handle too small, choil to small, to thin, bla...bla...bla... I suppose I will work it out sooner or later.

Do any of you guys have a niche that has been difficult to fill?

yardkeeper. it's not infi but it is just about the ideal little knife.

The Bolo niche....I think I'm just going to have one custom made....I still haven't found the right axe. The only ones I have are a Fire Axe and a small hatchet. It's fun to destroy stuff with the fire Axe....to bad it's getting a little loose on me now :(

The medium niche is hard for me to fill. I'll have to see about that one. I've had a SHBA, a NO-e (actually a couple), Mud Razors, Hell Razors, Satin Jacks Tacs, HOGSJTACS, BIBB, Eu17's of all sizes, FSH, MOASH, SH-e's, and maybe other's that I forgot...OH a BATAC w/Mags :D....I think I've really just been waiting for the SH-1...

The big blade was an easy one...kinda...the SHBM and the Eu-Mag fit me like a glove. The Fusion BM's are alright too/not soo hot on the Ergo's though I still want a ZTBM.

I feel ya on the small blade thing though The Dog Skinner is one that I really want but have never seen ANYWHERE. I like the AD, MS, GW just fine though.

I'm uber picky, heck I traded a SHBM without even using it, what's that tell you. I'm still holding out for a SE FBM. I should have just stayed in Atlanta, took my chances, and suffered the consequences when I got home, but I didn't. In a Busse, the SHBM or the Basic 9 have about been the best so far, but I still want to try a SE FFBM and a FBM with Mags before I decide on "THE" Busse chopper. The B9 is great, but I find that I end up choking back on the handle more than I'd like when I'm felling pesky trees. The Sage Fatty is way too heavy for me. I loved the feel of the standard FSH, but figure it won't do anything an FBM won't. Don't get me started on the AK vs.Ruck issue;)

I second the Gransfors. I was given the Wilderness Hatchet for Christmas, now all my axes are Gransfors. :D

Small EDC fixed blades have been a tough niche for me as well. I'm hoping to fill it with a Game Warden - my first Busse.

Fallkniven F1 or H1 seems to be what you might consider "small", but if you want any smaller a folder will do what you need. ;)

EDIT: Granfors are awesome, I was given the wildlife hatchet for my birthday and it is perfect (and I am picky)

Yup. You better believe it. Nothing stock ever seems to work for me. I gotta screw with everything (motorcycles, my rhino, guns, trucks, knives, etc, etc).

That's why I can't stop myself from doing stuff like this:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485955

I have a Spyderco. lil. Temp. but folders scare me. I am almost strictly a fixed blade guy. I have thought about trying the SAR GW but the handle loks a little small. Like a 3 finger handle and I am just not that in to 3 finger handles. But enough people rave about them so that must be pretty comfortable. Hopefully, I will get to see one this week. ;)

Scott: If I had your skills I'd be modifying everything is sight. ;)

I"m having the oppisite problem on an EDC...got all kind of GW's, AD's and Meaners and can't figure out which I like best:confused:

Thought the Black DC GW was the ticket until I got in the muddy AD, then I got a Satin/snake AD this week and it feels better...and the SE Meaner feels just as good. Got a few EDC sheaths in the last two weeks so I have to decide now.

Have you handled an AD? I know you have a Meaner...the AD feels better to some with its smaller butt pommel...does to me anyway. Other than that there the same handle...guess you knew that though

Good Luck!

GW. Even though I have big hands the rounded contours make it a very comfortable knife. More so than my AD or MrS. Unfortunately I like a bigger blade, so I'll probably end up carrying the AD or MrS.

The GW handle is too small for me. I can get some of my pink on it, but it's not as comfortable and secure as I'd like. The AD has a perfect handle. It has the extra half inch I need to get my whole hand on it while not having any handle hanging out. (I don't like small knives with long handles.)

I have a very hard time finding the perfect camp knife. In the past two weeks I have ordered at least nine knives with 3.75 to 4.5 inch blades with the understanding from the dealers that I can send them back. So yes I'm on a serious hunt:cool:.

The ABA is dam close but is a bigger knife than I want. A MS is about the right size but the blade shape isn't right and the butt isn't smooth, the AD is a better blade shape but too small. As for general EDC many work for me, the GW, AD and MS are great knives for that slot.

Of course when I get this camp knife thing figured out I'm having serious thoughs of sending the best one to Jerry to have him make his "spin" on it in INFI:D  I'd pay the tab for a Busse cutsom camp knife because that is the knife I really use and count on...

  would I need two, you know just in case;)

I'll have to let you swing my Gransfors Brux Wilderness Hatchet around Friday. It's a fun little guy. :)

Most definitely :D I'll look forward to it! I'll also bring a BG-42 Small Sebenza for you to check out along with a folding 6'' Cold Steel Vaquero (you'll like that one :D)

Tony, it sounds like you want a Mean Street (MS) or a Lean Mean Street (LMS).
Now, I'm not talking about the MrS or the LMrS, they have the upswept tip and that funky double-bump butt. e.g. the LMrS SE
I'm talking about the old school MS and LMS, with the drop point and round butt. They are definately more difficult to find, but IMHO worth the effort.
Here's my 2nd hand MS that was stripped when I got her. She feels so good in the hand. :D :D ;) ;)

Never mind. I mis-read your posting and had a suggestion based on my error.

Yes I think that the Lean version of that knife could work very well.

I actually had one some time ago and sold it:grumpy:
