You guys are a great help. I find a hewing hatchet at the fleamarket and wonder about the shaping and sharpening. The axe knowledge I found on the woodworking forums I sometimes frequent was slim to nonexistent . So googling I find this site. Great lots of helpful answers but it came with a contagious virus. Yesterday I find myself in Tandy Leather looking at leather for sheaths. After a run on Bandaids , each axe is getting a sheath. So far the score is found five and given away a Harbor Fright type one. But I'll be checking the fleamarket to morrow.
Thanks again guys

Mea culpa, mea mAXEma culpa.

I think you guys are spreading it around a little TOO well. I have been lurking and visiting shops for a while now and still haven't found anything. I will keep at it, patience is a virtue and all that, but c'mon, does somebody have to die for me to find a decent axe? Time for the estate sales I guess.

I have to start practice stoicism when I talk about axes with vendors. Some of those greedy basta.......s are too lazy to educate themselves and assume every hatchet, axe or hammer I am willing to buy is a treasure. :). They do not understand that somebody wants to buy half-hatchet with falling apart weld or worthless, soft as butter Chinese axe shaped object just out of curiosity.
