I have recently been wearing out a lot of mice and trackballs. So I have been out shopping for a new one. It's been difficult to find one, that does not cause problems like numbness, tingling, or trigger finger.

One thing I came to realize is that when you put a tool in your hand, the position of your hand is usually in the same position as if you were shaking hands with someone. Yet they still design mice as if your palm were flat on the table which is a very unnatural way to hold a tool.

The challange is: is there anyone here that can operate a balisong knife, in the same position as the mice or trackball forces your hand into. For me, it is very ackward to try and manipulate a balisong in that position.

Maybe we could all chip in and send Bill Gates a balisong so he could get an idea of how to position the hand and arm to make a proper mouse that does not cause damage to the bodies nerve system. I know as a carpenter, I had tool in my hand all day long, often the same tool, and I never had the slightest bit of a problem compared to the problem that the mice cause me. I am sure it is because they try to force your hand into a unnatural position. Thanks, JohnR7 www.BalisongKnife.com

Have you tried the Trackman FX by Logitec??

It works great (unless you're left handed) and is very comfortable, even during long stretches at the computer.

You'd think that with all the optical mouse things that they're doing these days, they could come up with more of a vertical design.

I was thinking about something along the lines of a game joystick. That would be my idea of the perfect mouse for web surfing.

The POV button at the top could move the pointer (with the Thumb), The trigger could be the left CLICK (Index finger), etc....

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. That would get the hand wrist and everything in the right position for holding a tool, rather than a totally unnatural position. I am sure the problem is that these things are designed by a bunch of collage boys that have never really held a tool in their hand or did a honest days work all their lives.

Currently computer related injurys make up for 1/3 of all work related injurys, and it is due almost totally to a defective design.

Not yet, but now that you suggest it, I think I will give it a try. I tired the Microsoft optical trackball and the optical part of it is wonderful. But it's just to small for my hand. I need something bigger, more oversized.

John,

Clay is absolutely right, the trackman marble fx is the most comfortable mouse on the market now (IMHO) - unless you're left handed. It helps that numbness/tingly feeling out tremedously.

Have you considered trying a touch pad? thats what I use on my computer, and love it. Alps makes good ones, and have a lifetime waranty. in fact, I called them once to request a new floppy disk copy of the software, and they sent mye a brand new glide point! Just a thought, hope you find something thats better.

Joy-Stick idea sounds good, but I think that tilting the joystick to move the curser would be cool. Just make it custom configurable, and you may become rich!

I posted a while ago that I had carpal tunnel syndrome, which turned out to be a pinched nerve. The problem is that it's not only the hands position that counts, but also the forearm. I used to rest my arm (approximately the middle of my forearm) on the edge of my desk, for six years in a row, and I guess that the sudden baliflipping made my nerves and hamstrings infect.
Now it's all better, and I can flip again!

The joystick idea sounds pretty good, but it should be something that supports your hand and forearm.

Actually, there is a joystick mouse. Electronics Boutique sells this, but i cannot seem to locate it on their website.

I'll post more if I can find it.

Otherwise, just find a mouse to fit. Try the razer boomslang(awesome) if you don't mind a mouse. If you want a trackball....try the microsoft optical thumb trackball(if you haven't yet).
