So the Battle is over the the bidding is done, and the can winner claim his prize. This is a Group one Pre Factory knife, that was recently at auction on the bay. I was patiently waiting in the shadows to post my bid in hopes to win this knife. There has been controversy weather group one knives had model # stamped on them or not. Well, this knife was a game changer. I'm not sure who the winner was or if he know what he has but it proves that group one knives had model #, and that Buck knives and the history of Buck knives needs to be re-written. Only group one knives were made using Masonite handles that is a fact. The large font lettering was used in group one knives, that is a fact. this knife has a 106 stamped in the reverse tang. There are only 3 other examples of group one knives known to exist and all three have model #'s. Here is the listing.

I watched the listing, but knew it was going to be out of my price range right now. I also knew it was old, but didn't realize it was that old.

Matt...I kind of thought in the back of my mind that you might end up with it, because of the scaler. :)

Thank you Matt. An exciting knife and a terrific auction of Buck history.

Can you say anything about the sheath? I see that the seller said that it was authentic and I wonder what hallmarks to look for when the word of the original owner is not available?

I have one group one knife and they are extremely rare, like I said there are now 5 known to exist. As far as the sheath, The sheath will be unmarked and made of leather. The snap on the keeper strap is usually flat and painted. The Sheath I have is made by a company called J.F Kahle, San Diego. It was a saddlery and leather company that resided in the first floor of a hotel, Originally called the Brooklyn Hotel. This Cowboy/Victorian hotel built in the late 1880's also, later became known as the Kahle Saddlery Hotel, after the prominent saddle and harness shop that occupied the ground floor in 1912, and Wyatt Earp lived in this hotel most of the seven years he resided in San Diego.

I would have liked to have added that one to my collection as well. Fortunately for the winner, I just bought a dump truck, and am low on cash, so $500 was my limit. There are so few of those era knives available on the open market. I hope the winner is a BF member and posts lots of photos.

I was hoping the same thing, so I could offer him $1000 for the knife. Only after the listing closed did my wife tell me that I could have up'd my bid to to a Grand. Women:rolleyes:
