The BBT came yesterday afternoon and left a package at my door. For those who don't know, that's the Big Brown Truck, also called UPS. I, "The Frugal Knife Knut," ordered myself some fresh folders from Smoky Mountain Knife Works, www.eknifeworks.com. The older I get the more I appreciate the timeless utility of simple single-blade pocket knives. I really like the Opinel No. 8 Garden Knife (OP133080 @ $6.99), and I've given a few to my friends so I got two more. Just for fun, I also got for myself an Opinel No. 8VRI with an olive wood handle that's pretty (OP899 @ $8.99). I got a couple more of the Victorinox red Solos, a longer single-blade version of the SAK. It's just a classic, flat, and very comfortable pocket knife in my estimation (V53842 @ $5.99, and they are labeled "closeout" so if you want one act now). I also got a Victorinox Floral, which is a good, simple, useful knife with a sheep's foot blade (V40567 @ $6.99). There's nothing sissy about this "floral knife" and it's long enough to fit a man's hand. Maybe the best thing I got on this order is the Boker Jr. Sodbuster with a yellow handle that looks more like aged ivory to me. It's the perfect companion to the full size one like it that I got a year ago. These are great, simple, carbon steel knives (BK403Y @ 10.99, and the large one is only $2 more). My wife really liked that Jr. Sodbuster! Her eyes lit up when I pulled it out. Well, this is how I have a lot of fun about twice a year without spending half of my Social Security check.
