Another project that has taken me a lot of time to complete is this heavily modified Becker BK10 Crewman.

It started out as a standard Crewman like this....

And after a lot of work, ended up like this...

And after putting an old Becker Campanion kydex sheath in the oven for a while, I squashed it to fit the new Crewman. :)

Hope you like it.

Love it. I recently stripped the black off mine and am in the process of sanding/polishing the blade. I hope it looks as good as your's when I'm done. What kind of wood did you make the handle from?

WOW!!...That is VERY a excellent customization!

Thanks for the kind words people. :)

The handle is African Leadwood and black liners with brass corby bolts and a stainless thong tube.

It's my main user at the moment, but, I'm working on modding my Campanion.
These projects take me ages to finish.

Cheers.

P.S Thanks for moving the thread Cougar, I should know by now. :)

Looks great! How did you polish it?

The great mod you did makes me wonder -

why do so many Beckers, more it seems than any other knife, get modified?

I stripped the coating off with paint stripper and that reveals the reason why it was there in the first place.
The finish on the Becker knives is very rough and although that gives the coating something to grip on to, it makes refinishing quite a long process.

All the sanding was done by hand with sandpaper starting with a 5 metre roll of 40 grit and when that ran out I moved onto a 5 metre roll of 60 grit...etc

After a couple of months I had moved onto Wet and dry 60 grit up to 240 and then to the buffer.

The thumb ramp was removed with a file and the spine was squared by clamping sheets of sandpaper to a table.

Cheers.

The 0170-6C steel used in the Becker line is great (in my opinion) and they are relatively cheap plus, as RDELLIOTT said, the handle is easy to remove.

This makes them ideal candidates for modding. :)

Cheers.
