So for a while I carried a knife on my keychain. I had a Victorinox on there at one point and I really liked the scissors but wanted something with a little more cutting power and moved on to a H1 Ladybug with a Spyderedge. While I enjoyed it I kind of wanted a plain edge and ended up selling it but never purchased another. I've gotten the itch recently to have a small knife with my keys again and came across the Byrd Finch 2.

I'm not normally a made in China type guy. I prefer US built generally but I know and trust Spyderco's value brands. They are good quality knives at prices I can get behind. So when I saw that I could get G10, steel liners, riveted construction, and a choil for under 20 bucks, I was sold. I can live with 8cr on a keychain knife. All of the reviews have been stellar. The Ladybug is a great knife but this Byrd may just be a sleeper.

Edit:

The knife arrived last night. When I got home from work around 9 I got it out of the mailbox and was really happy with what I found. This knife is an incredible value!

Updated the OP with a pic. Carrying this little knife on me today. It opens pretty easily with one hand (I've got huge hands) and you don't know it's there. Will attach it to my keys eventually. Really enjoying it!

I have a couple of Byrds and I think they are great for the $$$.

Not as good as a Chinese made Spyderco, but who cares? If I lost my Tenacious, I’d be pissed. My $20 Byrd Meadowlark? Not nearly as much.

In Canada, Gerbers are way more expensive than Byrds. Glad I only made the $40 Gerber flipper mistake once. :)

I own 2 Byrds and plan to buy a few more.

Looks really good. From the brick I can get some idea of size but is there any way you could post a pic with the old Victorinox or with a coin so I could judge scale ?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Sure. I'll snap a pic tomorrow.

This is too funny, I ordered the EXACT same knife a few days ago, it was delivered yesterday, but I'm out of town until tomorrow to put it on my keychain!

For the price, I also plan on picking up the meadowlark2, robin2, cara cara2 all $20 and under price range, can't beat that with a wet noodle!

Well mine was here when I got home, already made its way onto my keychain! Nice little knife and I also have large hands and have no problem opening this little gem!

Hey thanks Panoz77 !
(for the photo)
Hey, I'm thinking of buying one of those Nitecore lights; almost did last night.
How do you like it ?  ?
Does it keep from coming on well enough when in your pocket ? I will probably just carry one loose in my pocket just at home.

It's a really nice keychain light, weighs next to nothing and pretty darn bright on high. It very seldomly will get switched on, on my keychain but no big deal. Charges up pretty fast. I could see it getting switched on in a pocket more easily, so I wouldn't recommend pocket carry. At least on your keychain, you or someone around you lets you know its on.

Isn’t it a bright little bugger for its size? The battery lasts forever it seems too. Only charged it a few times in the last year+.

I bought a Lumintop AAA Worm last year to replace the Nitecore when it died.... it’s still in my drawer. The Nitecore is solid for the $$$ IME. Unless it gets crunched, it will might go a few years.

COOL !
Thanks again Panoz77.
I might pull the trigger tonight. I was going to get black but that clear one is great too, interesting that way.

SharpieB,
Do you by chance have the Spyderco Byrd Finch 2 ?
(I better get this back on topic; my bad.)

I need a new keychain knife I was thinking of a ladybug or dragonfly but this would save some cash so Ill try one out soon. Thanks for the idea.

I do. I love it.

Great quality and feels great in the hand. An Endura 4 is definately next for me, but the Cara Cara 2 is a serious knife for $20.

BMCGear BMCGear , what is the actual model of your Byrd? Starling?Finch? Apologies if I missed it...

How appropriate to discuss Byrds on thanksgiving.

The Byrd is the word? :)

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if I mentioned it; Finch 2. :)

This little blade is making me want to give a Peanut a try again.

Cool. Based on the Ladybug or smaller? I ask as my wife stole mine and it is the perfect size for a keychain knife IMO. :)

Yea, it's similar to the ladybug in size BUT you get a choil which makes the knife feel bigger in hand.
