I finally broke down and bought a magnifing head thingy. Like a Magnivisor only the cheapo version from Harbor freight for like $8 or so.
If you don't like Harbor Freight, Ebay has this stuff all the time.
It is amazing what you can see with this thing.
Brings to light many of the gremlins that haunt your shop like squeaky tight fitting guards Etc.

The other $12 was spent on an extra shop light for above the bench.
Money well spent...

Good thoughts! Ever so true, light and being able to see help. It is amazing how we get lost in what we are doing and forget the basics.

You know your getting old when theres not enough light.

When I was a young electricial I put in a heap of lights on grinders and various machines. The Older guys would say there is not enough light. Now I'm the older guy there is not enough light.

Good advice Robert I have some extra second hand flouressent light waiting to go over my bench. It had better be sooner than later my hair is getting greyer.

P.s I'm not going blind my arms just are not long enough. Does that sound familiar to anyone.

Reg, time to join the bifocal brigade! :D

There are so many lights in my basement shop it gets Hot down there! I also try to go for a mix of bulbs - from regular incandescent to grow lights. The broad spectrum helps me see what the projects will look like in "real life."

Hey Bob,Glad to hear you took my advice to you and got one of the magnavisors..I seen a cheap version at Hobby Lobby the other day that has changable magnification lens's for then in the sewing section.
These things really work great when trying to get your grind lines even and matched up.If you can get them close enough under magnification then the naked eye won't see it off at all.Plus you will see all kinds of little scratches that you didn't before as you hand rub out your blades.

hey, you can buy "cheaters" lenses at the weld supply store, different powers for old to older pharts;) he heh

I have two of those incandescent desk lights on each side of my grinder. These are the kind that pivot and swing and they are mounted on the edge of my grinder bench. It works quite well.

Once I got spoiled by this setup it is hard to use someone elses.
The eyes grow dim. Like some of you folks, I now know what that means.
