I was wanted to know, what peoples oppinios are of the best emerson self defence knife. Kerambitn CQC 7 or '13? or what ever your oppinion would be. Personaly i like the combat Kerambit.

I am generally more comfortable with something like the CQC8 or Commander as I have no specific training with the Kerambit. If you choose the Kerambit, you should highly consider getting the proper training to go with it.

ya i agree with you on that. in my mrtial arts the teacher coverd the kerambit for about 2 months in edged weapons, but due to the rotation of the blade i believe in order to safely use it you should have extencive training.

They are all good for SD. That's what they are designed for. Pick one you like the looks of, that fits you the best, that is legal for carry where you live, and learn to use it. The Emerson training DVD's are excellent.

My favorite is the CQC-12 but all 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, Commander, Mini's, Karambits.

If you want a single purpose offense and defense knife, go for the Persian.

for strictly self defense use a zero bevel grind CQC8 is hard to beat imho, kinda pricey though, of the production models i like the CQC12 best for SD due to the frame lock, and the shape of the blade, but really a lot of them would be great for SD, the CQC7,10,11,13,SOCFK,P-Tac,I&I tanto, all good, and the super versions are even better, ya gotta remember that ernie designed all of them except the SARK to be weapons, it would be logical they would all be good, just find one ya like.

really to be effective with a kerambit ya need training, & i mean training not a video, imho more important with a 'k-bit than most other knives.

Probably wouldn't be a good idea to wave a persian.:D

how come ya say that?? i think it would be fine imho. actually ya can hook the disc on your pocket if ya twist it just right and wave it open, never a prob with mine. ya can do this on several of the non-waved ones - doesnt work as well as the wave of course.

i love the wave but a lot of my fav emersons arent waved (ie CQC6, '8 wasnt waved for a long time, esp. the custom versions, I&I tanto, etc) so i got used to not having it, it does work pretty darned well though. really for yrs few/none of the customs were waved FWIW, now he's starting to put it on more custom stuff, always wondered why he wouldnt wave everything??

Yup, well said Roshi.

I primarily use my knifes for utility. I have a couple Karambits, but I don't carry them anymore.

La Griffe, as it is very hard to disarm/drop.

I only wish there were some 3 or 4 inch blade models by Emerson. Perrin has more than one model in that range on bladeart.com, BUT, he apparently is not a believer in stainless steel and more importantly, those prices are way out of my comfort zone.

SIFU1A,
When I look at the blade shape of the persian with its very pointy tip bent upwards, I think it's very possible to wave that knife straight into your leg. Of course this are only my thoughts considering the shape of the persian. Maybe it would work fine, I don't know.

The Persian. Now if that only came with the wave feature... you would have yourself the perfect sd knife, assuming that the blade length is legal where you plan to carry it..

CQC8 or CQC12 would be my picks. Both have ample blade lengths and stout no give handles that could also be used as a blunt force object.

The Persian model has really been peeking my interest. How hard is it to open without the wave? Does it lend itself to fast deployment?

I would use whatever feels the best in your hand. The last thing you want is to be worrying about the knife handle not conforming with your hand.I would also make sure you get some training in close quarter combat, knife combat specific training and even open hand combat without a weapon.I've been training for 3-4 years in grappling,Mui tai and Jiu-Jitsu.I am planning on doing a week retreat for some knife and pistol training.MMA or Mixed Martial Arts will give you what you need for about 99% of your encounters.
