I'm looking to add a Kershaw to my collection, and I'm wondering which one to get.

I like the speedsafe stuff. I'd LOVE a rainbow leek, but that is more than I want to spend right now. The chive is cool, but too small.

Should I just get a plain leek?

I'm not the biggest fan of Speedsafe but the Leek is pretty solid I have to admit. I like the slim, flat clip. Perfect for back pocket carry.

I would take the Leek over the Chive. But if you have the $$$ to spend I'd get the Boa!

The Ultimate Kershaw? Whisper! Totally kick ass new lock, tons of super precision machining, hand rubbed 440V blade.

I really like that new Wisper:eek:. My local dealer is going to be getting a few of the rainbow leeks in soon and I can't wait to see them, I haven't seen a really good picture of the rainbow leek yet, anybody have any good pictures of one?

I really like the speedsafe system its just that in kershaws smaller knives like the scallion and chive the thumb studs pretty much remain unused because its harder to open with them. I wish they would release something like the wisper is a cheaper verion that isn't limited:D

I do like that Whisper, but it is a little more expensive than most...maybe I'll have to get is anyway...

I just picked up a multicolor Boa yesterday so I would say....................yep, you guessed it, a Boa! I saw the Whisper and played with it a while the other weekend and while I like the ti frame the handle and blade are just too far off for me. It does look like a great user and the vault lock worked like a charm!

I recently got an SS/PE Leek through eBay. I am very impressed with the solid ergonomics, the fit and finish, the sharpness of the blade and the firm lock-up accomplished via a frame-lock. I also have an all black/PE Scallion. It is a great knife as well but for my money I'll take the Leek.:)

I would say save up the extra few bucks and by the Rainbow Leek. 1SKS has them for something like $65 or so. You already said you love it, so you might was well treat yourself to a knife you really want.

I haven't handled the Whisper yet, but the Boa is very impressive. It's one of those production knives that give you near-custom fit and finish at about the $120 price range.

The long answer is: If you don't want to pay for the Ranbow Leek then the Boa, Whisper, Avalanche, Ricochet, Random Task and Mini-Task are all going to be too much for you as well. And after eliminating the Chive as well because of size and still keeping it a SpeedSafe--you're pretty much left with the (regular) Leek, Scallion (plastic or aluminum handled), Whirlwind, Blizzard, and the Blackout. I'm not too fond of the plastic handled speedsafes and if it was between the Aluminum Scallion and the Leek, I'd go with the Leek. It's right in the mid-range size, I like the blade shape and the Leek SpeedSafe has a real kick to it.

Short answer: Get the plain Leek.

Get the LEEK.I have a cute little SS Chive with its tiny little recurve blade for opening letters and the Whirlwind/Blackout with their rubber/plastic handles aren't so great but the Leek and Random Task are excellent. I love my Boa but it is too big for EDC.The Blue/ Green / Red / Black Scallions are OK for the price. Also consider a SOG Aluminum Flash.Good knife. You will love the Leek blade shape and the locking style.

I've owned a few Kershaws over the years. The only one I really like is the one in my pocket right now, the Cross Lock. Really neat combo of vintage style and modern technology.

I want this.....

anyone know when it will be available?

The Boa is hands down the best Kershaw knife I've ever handled including the leek, chive, blackout, random task, avalance, etc... The best for me may not be the best for you though.

If you like the leek, get a leek!?! If you think the rainbow coloring is worth the extra 20-30 bucks, save up more dough and go for it. If you know what you truly want, don't settle for something lesser that you can get RIGHT NOW.

Hmm, I don’t know...
I like the old, now discontinued, titanium handled T-Hawk with flat ground ATS-34 blade, it is extremely elegant and well made knife and I still use it for suit carry.

I like a lot my Ricochet, IMO it is very well balanced in dimensions for daily utility chores and it is classy at the same time. Unfortunately it is discontinued also...

Looking among the models currently manufactured probably I like colored Boa the most. It handles greatly and it looks so cool. Remember, that KERSHAW with the Boa was one of the first manufacturers who have broken black-handle-tactical tradition overtaking BENCHMADE and SPYDERCO in this area.

I've only handled a Boa, and a Chive. Both Speed Safes on those were surprisingly snappy for a knife that's not technically an automatic.

Are all Speed Safe models snappy or are there sluggish ones (ie. perhaps due to heavy blades)?

The Boa is actually the most sluggish out of all the SpeedSafes that I've handled (I've played with all of them except the Whisper). I think, though, that it feels a little snappier due to the index trigger/flipper and a bit of a wrist flick. The Leek seems to be the snappiest out of the bunch with the Chive a close and almost equal second.

my favorite kershaw is the boa, excellent materials, quality and design, the whisper is nice but imo it doesn't look all that great

My favorite would be the avalanche, wonderful sizer general utility knife!!! I also am a big fan of g-10 so this does play a part in it also. I have all the sppedsafes except for the random task, boa, and rainbow leek (I do have a few plain leeks though). out of all the ones I have the avalanche always seems to be the winner, great edc!!

get the rainbow leek if your on a buget!! you wont be disappointed!!! try knivesrus I think they will probably have the best price on it!!
