Hey fellas, I personally think this is the best knife I have made to date. It has desert ironwood scales and brass pins. the handles taper toward the point and the blade is flat ground. You said you wanted to see some of the knives I made a while back, well IMHO I think this is the best one I have made to date.

Nice MM!

You keep getting better & better. Keep it up and you will be able to make a living as a knife maker. Did you forge the blade?

Dale,
I used the stock removal method. I don't have a forge (yet) and if I did it's too hot to use one anyway ;) . It 'bout kills ya to wear a respirator as it is :)

MM,
Is the stock heat treated before you start making the knife, or do you send it out to be heat treated after you make the blade? I have done both. There is a fellow in MI who has heat treated a couple for me. His name is Delbert Ealy. He will heat treat carbon steel, while most places just do stainless. If you want to have him heat treat something for you send me a email & I will give you his info. He is real reasonable on his fees, $5.00 + shipping.
I will post a pic when I get that knife done.

Keep up the great work.

I made it from a piece of 2 man crosscut saw, I got nice distal taper in the spine, it has slight flex, perfect for a makeshift fillet knife if need be. I heat treat my own steel if it is not already tempered before hand. If you keep the crosscut saw cool, there isn't any real need to re-temper it, it holds a pretty good edge and takes one like a razor.

Nice useful knife MM! 2-man cross-cut saw steel reminded me, that's what I used for my first knife ever. Stock removal, holds a good edge. I don't know how to temper anyway! I made this knife in 1971, and reground it a few years ago.

The little green thing is a twist-tie to keep the knife straight on the scanner.

Nice knife Waynorth! You found a good use for an old 'misery whip.' :D
Do you still make knives? My dad has a couple of old cross cut saws, but I haven't been able to talk him out of them yet, though he did give me a 4' circular saw, out of a saw mill, I think I will get a bunch of knives out of it.

BTW, are you coming down to Portland for the Blade Show Sept. 15-17? I thought if you are coming down we could get together and swap a knife story or two. :)

Take care,
Dale

Hey Dale, missed this post until now; That sounds like a good plan. I missed going back east for a couple of shows this year, so am seriously yearning to go to a show. I'll see if I can arrange to go, and get back to you!!
