These three are the names that always crop up. Their range of knives is so wide that I have trouble trying to differentiate one from another.

From the top of your head, what would you consider the best three from each name? So, in future in case I stumbled into one of those shops that has all the famous names, I know what to look for. :)

From these I´m only familiar with Schrade which I´ve used since the 60´s, (I have one Case lockback and preffer Buck or Schrade).

My regular EDC is an Uncle Henry premium stockman and I´ll place it first, for second I´d choose one of equivalent models in 1095, though they have been discontinued for a while (and I have an Old Timer that is stainless), third would be the Old Timer Middleman.

Schrade makes pretty decent, low cost production slip joints...mostly in 1095. My own personal opinion is they are dependable, well made for a production knife and priced for the average non-knifenut.

When I use the term "barlow" I am referring to a specific slip joint pattern (see attached picture).

Case is a mass production manufacturer that produces, in my opionion, pretty knife handles with inferior blade steel.
