Hello All,
I'm new to this forum and need some advise. I'm looking for a general utility camping/fishing/hunting folder. It will be used occasionaly to clean a fish (I don't catch many) or clean a pheasant, but will be mainly used for food prep when camping such as peeling/slicing/chopping vegetables, and slicing cheese and meats. I recently purchased a BM 556 and find the blade a little short for food prep, so I'm leaning toward a larger knife such as a Manix, Military, or D Allura although the Ocelot looks very interesting. Of these, which would you recommend for my needs? Is there another model I should consider?

TIA,
cv

Ive had my Manix for a couple of months now and ive used it on all sorts of cutting tasks....you wont be dissappointed..you should also do a search on cliff stamps manix review....good luck...

Take a look at the Stretch (Top of the first pic. I got this one recently and love it.) or the Ocelot. Either one would work well for you.

For the chores you've mentioned, I go for the Military. It's an exceptional knife for food prep and cleaning fish. That pointy tip is perfect for opening up bellies on fish. The long blade makes kitchen work a snap. The simple construction makes the knife extremely simple to clean. The G-10 provides a great grip, even when your hands are covered with fish slime. It doesn't hurt that it's practically weightless too. I’ve used a Military for years now, for exactly these same duties. It’s perfect.

A lot of the bigger Spydies make great outdoor blades. I have used the Manix, Military and Endura for all kinds of stuff in the woods. I am really wanting the gen 4 Endura, I think that will make a great light but tough utility knife.

I would recommend checking out the D'alara drop point. I haven't used one but its got a large drop point blade, a great locking system and dual steel liners for strength. Its also cheap. Oh yeah and the blade steel is vg10 which Spyderco makes really truly sharp and is easy to keep that way.

go with the endura gen 4 plain edge. light thin strong. if you're going for a manix....its heavy....might as well carry a fixed blade at that point.

noting against it.....i own a manix. great knife but heavy for a folder.
