I sent Karl a piece of 'rayskin last year and he sent me this.....

Some quick shots with my phone but you get the idea.....I'll get some better pictures later......it's a FINE piece-of-work.

The Postman commented it was the "sturdiest" package he ever delivered. :D

Awesome knife. Love the blade shape.

As far as packaging...nah the sturdiest thing I've ever encountered (yesterday no less), was a table saw I ordered that got shipped with a steel roll cage surrounding the entire box. We had to use a cut off wheel to open it up.

Bomb proof packaging for sure!...and a great hamon on that piece.

I mentioned a story to Karl about a buddy of mine here in Topeka that's an ABS Mastersmith that shipped a large Bowie, years ago, and the very tip work it's way through the sheath and packaging while in transit with the USPS....he got a nasty note from them complaining that one of their carriers was cut from wrist to elbow when he reached in his bag to make delivery.

Needless to say, that would/could NEVER happen with this set-up!

Thanks for posting that up, Dudley!
That ray skin came out great.
I've been shipping my knives like that for more than 5 years. I have never had the first incident.
I've even jumped up and down on them to prove stability.
A full 4 X 8 sheet of luan only costs maybe 15 bucks and lasts a looooooooooooooooong time. I buy 1 X 10s and rip them into strips for the sides.
I might have a dollar in that box.
But the peace of mind I have is truly priceless.
