getting a deer is good too but its really about spending time with the people you love

Right on.My best memories are not of the game I got but the people I was with ,the food we ate and the fun we had.

I would agree with all you said. The Best part about hunting to me is memories, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying the outdoors and beauty of nature.

The smile on a young kid's face after making a clean kill on a cull doe.
The trip, people, food, scenery, and quiet time are great too. Usually I get a chance to educate non-knife folks a bit as far as maintenance and sharpening as well, and ALWAYS learn a lot from others as well.

It may seem a bit morbid but for me after spending days in the brush the best part of hunting is that moment you decide to take the shot. After finding your prey and sometimes up to hours of stalking lining up the perfect shot and wrapping my finger around the trigger. That single moment of success and suspense right before taking the kill. For me I block out the rest of the world, There's nothing so serene. Thats the main reason I hunt, For that moment.

Going home to a pedestrian life with awakened and renewed senses. Experiencing the primeval part of us that has been dulled in this era of easy meat.

That and the beer of course. :o

I am an avid rabbit hunter so for me its the hounds (3) hot on a bunny!! Then... BANG!!! John

The quiet. And BTW I love your spatula. I usually just burn myself tryin to flip stuff with my knife.

My favorite time to hunt is early morning, watching the day begin, from black to grey to color, and the woods come alive with animal movement. The sounds of the forest: wind, birds in the trees, morning dew dripping from branches, acorns dropping, rustling leaves as something approaches...
If I kill a nice deer than that's just icing on the cake.
It's also about sharing the experience with friends that help you drag the buck out of the woods and get it back to camp and up on the skinning pole.

The best part about hunting is...

.....being outdoors and not being indoors at work. :D

Finishing the first batch of venison ham jerky as I type. 1/2 cracked pepper and garlic, 1/2 Dales marinate and cayanne pepper. Still have to slice up the loins and decide on the seasoning.

PS: I won't reveal the knife I used. It is a part of an upcoming challenge. ;)

Actually that is the real world. Best thing about hunting is the anticipation and the memories that follow.
