A simple message, but one that bears repeating. It’s one thing to get a new knife. I mean, who doesn’t love getting a new knife in the mail, right? You get a box with a return address label that reads DLT or BladeHQ or similar, and your heart skips a beat. Of course it does! Mine does too. But there is one thing in this hobby even greater. Much greater, in fact. Sharing it with loved ones, and especially the next generation.
My two year old is a bit young yet, but my four year old, Jake, has shown such great proficiency with his kitchen knife over the last year that he got his first fixed blade for woods/bushcraft (Mora Craftline Pro S) as a gift a few weeks ago. There is nothing like watching him do everything from open packages to carving feather sticks and the joy on his face when he looks up at me, standing over a pile of wood shavings with his eyes beaming with pride. HE did this. His skills. His technique.
Today he and I were taking a hike, and he specifically asked me if he could bring his knife. Of course, right? It was only a quick hike, but I cut a branch so he could cut on it a bit.
So, with that, I wish a wonderful and merry and joyous Christmas to my brothers and sisters here on BFC who celebrate Christmas. May it be surrounded by new knives, and more importantly, may it be surrounded by loved ones with whom you can share our wonderful hobby.
If you have any recent pics of your loved ones using knives, let's see them. It's a time to share ourselves with our family. If you have pics, let's see 'em.
Here are some from our hike today. Jake even asked me to set up a few knife only pictures including not just his knife, but the Sadowski knife I had on me.
