I am new to knives, and sharpening. I KNOW there is a lot af threads out there about sharpening solutions on the BK2. But i made a fresh one of several reasons.

-> I am a bushcrafter/camper<-
-> Becker BK2<-
-> New to knives/sharpening<-

I want something that i can use with my skill level (i am quite new to knives, the bk2 is my first real knife)

Good quality / durable

And something that dosent rip of the coating (at least for know) in the future i think i will force a patina.

Gear? A home setup?
Which setups are great?
Grinder?
Stones?
Other?

I find the Smiths Pocket Pal handy for use in the bush? Any better, that is as easy to use and handy as it?for the same price range.

Something that will make my knife(and axe - fiskars/granfors bruks?) sharp for a fair price(30-70$?) - it would be nice to slice hair and paper as in the YouTube videos!

If there is many different recommedations, lets set them up against each other - with cons and pros.

Thanks
Emil

WorkSharp WSKTS mini belt sander and some DMT Diafold pocket diamond sharpeners. WorkSharp also has their Field Sharpener out.

Not so long ago I was also new to sharpening. And one of my first serious knives was Becker BK2. It comes relative sharp,but not razor sharp.

With no expirience,I didn't want to mess with hand sharpening,because today on market we have many tools that make our lives easier.
One of tools is Spyderco Sharpmaker and I choose it for me. I can only say I made a good choice,because me as noob in sharpening with that tool I manage to get razor sharp edge on BK2.
It's very simple,I just follow the instructions.

I'm sure you like it too if you decide to buy it.

The Spyderco Sharpmaker was the first sharpening system I used that I was able to get a knife razor sharp. If you can hold a knife straight, you can get it sharp on the sharpmaker. Now after using the sharpmaker a bit, I am learning what I was doing wrong on other sharpeners and especially free hand.

Before the sharpmaker I had tried stones and steels, a lansky, pocket pal, and a presto electric sharpener

The pocket pal is practically abuse to the edge of your knives as is all draw through sharpeners.

A stone and strop is all you will need and for your price range I would recommend a Norton combo India and a strop with 1 Micron diamond spray. Personally I am not too fond of double sided stones (call it personal preference) and would probably go with a coarse crystolon stone and fine India stone as they are sold separately.

Using a "system" is a mental crutch and in reality makes sharpening more difficult than what it is. If you want something to help guide your angles add a DMT aligner clamp to the above set-up, they are about $10.
