Who makes good quality slip-joint knives (users)? Over the past few months, I've purchased a Queen small stockman & gunstock. I'm really pleased with both of these knives. However, I'd like to find something a little smaller than the stockman, which I believe is 3 1/4in closed.

I'd like something with good blade steel & handle materials. Is there anything out there that would fit this picture?

Thanks,

Clay

The Queen peanut is 2-3/4 inches closed. The Bulldog wharncliff whittler is exactly 3" (main blade has a pretty steep angle on it though, took me a while to reprofile mine)

Yuzuha,
I haven't seen Queen's peanut model in the online sops I frequent. Do you know anyone that carries this model?

Thanks,
Clay

Boker is making a cool little pattern these days, a one-armed razor jack. It is being offered in carbon steel with a choice of stag, bone, or celluloid scales. Its about 3 1/4 inches long with two blades. The main blade, the one armed razor, is different, but very cool. It has a blunt, scalloped tip that you can catch on your belt or pocket seam to open the blade one handed. My understanding is that this pattern became popular after the civil war when there were alot of one armed vets around who still needed a pocketknife, but couldn't open the normal two handed models. I picked up 2 models recently, redbone and tortiseshell cell, and am impressed with the overall quality for what I paid.

My favorite user slipjoint is a Schrade gunstock trapper (194OT). I've had it for about 20 years, it's a regular pocket-scalpel.

If you want a great knife, excellent steel and custom for just a bit more $$ than production pieces get in touch with Jeff Cover.

The one shown below (mine) is not quite 3 1/8" closed, ATS34 blade, stainless liners, bolsters & spine with red jig bone scales.

This knife from Jeff is between $100 - $125.

Fit and finish is better than production pieces and for a guy with one arm he makes a hell of a knife.

I can get you his dad's number (another great maker) if you're interested and I'm sure he can put you in touch with Jeff.

No sweat, Ray Cover's number is 573.749.3783, just tell him you're interested in one of Jeff's knives and he will get you going in the right direction.

Quite possibly the best value going in a custom slip joint today.

Did I mention that Paul Bos does all of their heat treating?

Yeah, Jeff makes a heck of a knife. Hey cpirtle, that's my picture ;) But you know me by another name. :D

Unfortunately Jeff didn't have any small slipjoints in St. Louis at the end of January or I would have bought them. I'm sure he'll have more sometime though!

He actually makes one smaller than this one, and I've had two of them...They are 2 5/8" closed...if I still have a pic I'll post it.

Cletus85? Yep, if I bought it from you than it is your picture, just used the one from the auction since I didn't have a chance to take my own yet. Nice to see you around!
